The origin of Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing

A few weeks back someone asked me about belly dancing and while researching its origin I was astonished at what I found.  This ancient pagan practice in which today its called exercise is also a beloved social and private activity. Many have asked is belly dancing a sin?  Although belly dancing is not inherently sin. The sin arises when it’s done publicly for approval, manipulation or to arouse men that are not your husband. Whether if  it’s for money or fame, it can become an elephant in the room or a slippery slope. This article is written to provide information and insight on its origin. If your married I believe your bedroom is ‘your bedroom’ if you desire to hang from the ceiling fan that will be between you, God, your spouse and your physician. Make no mistake about it people  if your a Christian and your a stripper or a belly dancer for private parties, then need we say anymore. But lets look closely at its history and where it comes from. In no way am I demonizing anything, I was just asked to sharing the facts.

The oldest images of belly dancing exist in a 5,000 year-old tomb in Saqqara Egypt. In some Hieroglyphics, the women are depicted in dance representing “the mystery of childbirth or fertility” These same visual depictions were also found on papyrus in 1500 B.C. “belly dancing” was considered a form of sacred worship often originally associated with ancient goddess Isis, Heket and Amaunet. Ironically a dancer performs in a seductive like serpent motion. They symbolize a mythological figure of rebirth and life in most cultures, in being ‘all torso and no legs’. The dancers would thrusts their pelvis and hips to show their strength, sexuality and simulating ability to produce children. The general
basic moves were characterized as rotating hips, serpentine arms, snakelike head gestures, and abdominal undulations.

These dance motions were a common form of belly dance that drew crowds while they seduced men and collected money. The Goddess Isis is quoted as saying, “I am the whore and the holy one, when I sit in the entrance of a tavern, I, Ishtar, am a loving harimtu, a prostitute compassionate am I.” The four most popular styles of belly dance are traditional and Egyptian, Arabic-Lebanese, Turkish and Greek.

According to wikipedia.org the Ghawazee were one of the most famous dancing tribes in Egypt. The female dancers (Ghazeeye/Ghawazi) was said to be the most beautiful women in Egypt. They were also raised to be prostitutes and temple dancers. The Ghawazi performed in the streets, temples and at harem parties. They often dressed in silk and wore necklaces, anklets,
heavy gold bracelets, nose rings and coins across their foreheads. These women also were traveling dancers of the gypsies.

In most biblical debates a very popular school of thought suggest that Salome a sacred temple dancer and daughter of Herodias danced before King Herod on his birthday to seduce him.  However after a drunken Herod was pleased at what he saw, he then replied,  “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will grant it, even half of my kingdom.” Shortly thereafter, Salome consults with her mother, who tells her to ask for the  head of John the Baptist on a platter. The debate is rather or not she dance to arousal her father, which is just nasty, or to entertain him. That’s left to your interpretation see ( Matthews 14:1-12, Mark 6:21-23).

What’s also interesting is in 1992 U2 released a song called Salome as a b-side to their single “Even Better Than the Real Thing” The song chorus – “Shake it, shake it, shake it, Salome”. Needless to say there is an Iranian rapper from Tehran who’s moniker is Salome.

Since the feminism movement belly dance had risen as form of liberation for women; displaying their headship by the use of their body to control and dictate the roles and rights of men. It was the lust of the eyes and flesh that allure men into trances.  It benefits emotionally, spiritually and physically.  Their continuous movement flows with the beat and patterns of all kinds of music. The dance gives her power and allows her to seduce who ever lay eyes on her. Now can you image Holy Belly Dancing? Women dancing to Marvin Sapps “He saw the best in me?”

Christian belly dancing

Belling dancing

In today’s popular culture belly dancing parallels club dancing in most hip-hop and pop sub-cultural environments. From dance hall reggae to hardcore booty dancing; although the methods change the results are still the same.

Teenagers are seduced while following after lascivious and perverse lifestyles. Some transform into strippers, private dancers and others are hired on as video vixens. Recently belly dancing has become very popular in community centers, churches and other groups or organization. Nevertheless the above information now helps us put belly dancing  in prospective. Let’s not make a ministry out of it or call it a gospel or Christian thing. After all it’s just belly dancing.

Side note: Wendy Buonaventura author of Serpent of the Nile: Women and Dance in the Arab World  stated, “In ancient times, dancing was a form of communication between the human corporeal realm and the ethereal spirit realm. Belly Dancing, The Sensual Art of Energy and Spirit Among the ancient rites connected with fertility are the initiation rituals of puberty, where sexual education for girls is relayed via erotic singing and dancing. The Western expansion in the 19th century nourished the cult of otherness, particularly of the exotic and bizarre other.

Eroticism was one of the main aspects of the exotic ‘Orient’. Travelers were thus fascinated by the ‘licentious’ female dancers, who provided them with a means to express the differentness and sensuality of “the East”…The female pelvic dance died out in many parts of the world. In some areas, however, it turned from a religious rite into a secular entertainment.”

Thank you Ex Times for creating this page. I’m so glad I never ventured deep into the dark and twisted world of belly dancing. I always wondered why I could never connect with the dance, I felt an uneasiness in in my spirit when attending classes and performing in shows. It’s true belly dancing has it’s origins in Eastern religions, and as Christians do we want to be affiliated with Eastern religions absolutely not!!!!!!! I know now that my Lord and Savior Yeshua was watching over me and interceding for me, there was a reason why I could not connect with this deceptive, evil dance form …….. the Lord knows best.

I will never understand why would someone wants to give up their soul for Flesly desires–Its just not a good deal. They need to read their contracts when they sign their soul to the devil and read the fine print…Im just saying…

As I grew in Wisdom I now understand that common sense is no such thing. Cause everybodies sense is not Common–My common sense will serve God and not lie to get a new car and disrespect God. But someone trying to sell me a car may see it as normal. He would think that his common sense says get what you want and a cheaper car note by lieing. My common sense may say…as soon as I leave that car lot after lieing about my rent payments I may get in a crash and it be my fault. Instead of being a wise steward. Or I may buy a house using a lieing fool common sense and get forclosure 5 years later because My interest went to 50%!!!!! But you see i am tryna get my common sense on Jesus level so I’m not stepping back…SMH

A friend from church said that she was gonna teach me belly dancing when I get engaged. I then set back and thought a minute. Hold on why do I have to wait when not only learned while you where single and still are? No belly dancing for me. I know some saints that went to pole dancing classes. Never understood why. My unsaved cousin tried to get me to go with her. She didn’t know that I knew that it was more to it. Probaly drinking and so forth. Of course I said no…Im just tired of this stupid world. Im just staying to help souls and be a help to my husband. MARANATHA!!!!!!

    thank God I saw this!

I’ve been taking dancing most of my life. never saw the issue until I went to a party where pole dancing was being taught. The Holy Spirit would not let me touch that pole or go near it. So, I went home and researched and found out the pole is the maypole from the mayday dance of european version of istar. After the dance is fornication. it appears again in strip joints in the early 1900′s. The Holy spirit will let me do yoga tapes at home as long as I don’t meditate or take classes (i work next to a yoga center) I’ve even taken a belly dancing class for women only. but the pole He would absolutely not stand for.

Hi there, I used to do Belly Dancing and feel that I must caution you. Yoga is an Eastern art, you opening a demonic doorway in your life by participating in it. The Spirit that’s allowing you to continue doing yoga is not from God, you need to look into this.Would you please research the origins of yoga.

      God Bless. T

I used to know a preacher who constantly preached against dancing, turned out the whole time he was preaching he was having an affair with a dancer.
True bellydancing is a dance for women by women. It is not intended for men. If you go to a bellydance show you will see mostly women and very few men.
Jesus said there was dancing when the Prodical Son returned.

I remember when I was in the world, belly dance was an exercise program I used to keep my abs toned. The DVD broke every dance move down, i.e. ” this is a great sensual snake move that will tone the..” That went right over my head at the time . After giving my life to Yeshua, I tried to continue with my exercise regime but couldn’t because of convictions that I felt while trying to dance. I threw away the DVD and tried a different program without feeling convicted. After reading this message, it confirmed and explained everything. Thank you Ex Ministries. Shalom.

When I was in Egypt I was on a Nile cruise and one night there was belly dancing for entertainment. I was able to tolerate it for about two minutes and then I left. This is pornographic stuff.

Last night was my first night ever seeing this website, and I can truly say that I can not express my gratitude for the pastor who is not ashamed to stand up for the truth and inform fellow believers. Alot of the things discussed on the site (i.e. hip hop, false prophets and teachers, etc) are things that I am aware of, but as God enlightens and gives more discernment, it makes you truly see the enemy’s agenda. I’m praying for a deeper relationship with God and that He would continue to bless me and other true believers with wisdom that this world can never offer.

I have seen a similar program like the DVD series offered through this site with a series that my parents purchased online from First Baptist Church of Boynton Beach in Boynton Beach, FL. I believe the pastor’s name is Mark Keiler, if I’m not mistaken. The series and teachings are on things like “Does the truth really matter anymore?” or hip hop, rock’n'roll and the like. My parents have been blessed with these series and have made several purchases of different DVDs. It is ALL God-inspired and true, sincere teachings. I would encourage you to check out Mark Keiler’s church site and check out the series as well. I guarantee you will be blessed by it.

I can definitely see that the “world is becoming churchy and the ‘church’ is becoming worldly,” and God is definitely not pleased with what goes on. I attended a church with my family back in Ormond Beach, FL (Calvary Christian Center) for about 7 years until March of last year, where my parents have been attending a true, Bible-teaching church (Riverbend Community Church in Ormond Beach as well). Anywho, to make a long story short, through much enlightenment over the past several years of things like what is to be going on in the Lord’s house and in ministry, I have moved on from congregations like Calvary Christian Center. (I don’t name the church to be a center of gossip, but just to acknowledge where I speak of). Alot of the foolishness goes on their, including: mime dancing, false “altar call” conversion, no complete and sincere reverence for the Lord, bringing people such as Donnie McClurkin and Paula White and others to annual “campmeeting events”…the list goes on. When we were first at the church, we thought things like this were okay; however, due to much spiritual growth and discernment, we have learned to come out from sitting under such leaders. I love the people that I know there, but when it comes to my life and my soul, God is the only one who has the power and authority to do what He wills and pleases with my life.

I could go on and on about things…but what matters most is that God be glorified and it is He alone that is in control. If He be lifted up, He will draw men unto Himself. Thank God for true preachers in the world today who are not ashamed to stand up for the truth. The Bible says that (and I’m paraphrasing) no man knows the day of His return, but that we shall see signs of the end times, which is now happening right before our eyes. Who knows if Christ will return a month from now, a year from now, or even 60 years from now?! No one knows! But all I do know is that He will come back for a glorious church, without spot or wrinkle. The Bible also speaks of a great falling away…this, to me, draws the line of separation between the sheep and the goats.

I really have to go..but God bless you fellow believers…and pray for me and others that they will have the scales removed from their eyes and that they will not be ignorant of the truth. God bless!

I also noticed that in the one picture the woman has a sundisk and bull horns on her head representing baal the sun god. Also note the 2 phallic towers in the background. Eygpt is directly related to babylonian worship.

  11. Britney

Wow thats crazy. But, it makes perfect sense. Semiramis the wife/mother of Nimrod was a prostitute and was worshipped as a fertility goddess (Ishtar, Easter, Isis). She and her husband started a false religion (the mystery babylon religion) where she was the moon goddess and Nimrod was the sun god. They also claimed that satan was the true god and enlightner of mankind, and that the seed of the serpent (the antichrist) will be born and finish what was started in Genesis (babel). Semiramis also started the mother/child cult impersonating Jesus and Mary. She is even referred to as the queen of heaven. In my opnion I believe that the evil spirit in Semiramis is the same evil mentioned in Rev.17(the whore of babylon/jezebel spirit). It makes sense sinse she and her husband are the first ones to start polytheism and all false religions come from babylon.

I sorta figured this. If you are practicing this, you oughta know.

I thank God that you put this article up because i have been struggling with trying not to want to know how to “club dance” in my home. I’m 21 and I’ve never been to a club or party or anything but I grew up listening to hip hop and watching their videos and remembering the dance moves… So now it hit me why I shouldnt even desire to.. because its like belly dancing back then. Same result. This was helpful.

Reply: When your married, that is between you and your husband.

    wow! very very interesting!!!

I admit I tried that belly dancing workout from a cable workout channel and um, I couldn’t get through the whole dance, I felt like a seductive woman. It is definitely a sensual dance and most instructors play a seductive egyptian tune too. I see it as some form of hypnotism using the body to arouse, it provokes lust. I give it two thumbs down, christian women without husbands should not be practicing it. There are many other methods and workout ruitines that we can do to achieve a slim waistline or strong abs without gyrating and wiggling like a serpent, just overall subjecting our minds and souls to worldly junk. Lord help us, amen

  16. GodzChild24

I have a question: Does this mean that if I decide to dance for my husband in the privacy of our home, am I wrong?

Reply: Absolutely NOT! Go ahead! Lol

    • Janelle

I understand what you are saying. If bellydancing is evil then don’t do it at all. Don’t do it in public, don’t teach it and also don’t dance in front of your husband. If you do it in front of your husband he will like it alot especially if he is comfortable with his own sexuality. So don’t do it at all. Do not dance at all. First of all I think God gifted us with dance. Every culture has different dance styles. You have your really nasty styles and you have your very beatiful sytles. It all comes down to what your intentions are. Are you just dancing for the attention, money, the sake of looking good or are you dancing for God?

      I like this scripture from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 :
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

That puts things into perspective. Dance with your loved one if you feel it is right. God gifted us with dance. It is a celebration of life. It also keeps you healthy and joyful if it is done with the love of God. So use your body wisely. I don’t do burlesque and I do not do stripping or pole dancing. To me that is not right. I do not feel like I have to be a vixen to get attention from men or feel powerful in that way because that is not being truely who I am. I am not a sex toy.
Women are beatiful yes but to use our own sexuality wisely and correctily is what we must think about. Sexuality in the western world is not pretty. In some of our First Nations (Native American) and African nations the body is a beatiful creation of God. Some of the indigenous people that are not totally clothed are not clouded by lust. They laugh at us because they see the body as being perfect and beatiful creation of God and not to lust after. If we see women dancing (even fully clothed) and see skin or see some naked man or nake woman exposed here in the western world men and women go coo coo with lust. How do you view the body? God truely did create the human body to be beatiful.

  17. spiritualwarfare

Great article! This has no place in the church of God. Its similar to stripping, or what video vixens do in videos. That’s why everyday on the news we hear about shootings at clubs or some kind of madness. Let’s take the club for example, you got massive alcohol being consumed, everybody wants to be a thug! On top of that you have women dancing seductively. A man can’t keep a sane mind being put in a trance like that! You can bet its going to lead to sin, as one comment mentions its clearly the spirit of jezebel at work. You got young ladies striving to become strippers or vixens! Marriages destroyed because men opening their eyegate to destruction. One of my friends just recently invited me to a club. I told him I don’t mess with clubs. Its a recipe, for disaster! I always explain to him how the enemy (satan) has made sure that the false god and pagan worship has continued from ancient rome, greece, egypt, babylon until now. Good article, we must pray and continue to preach the true gospel. God bless

  18. In Love With Jesus

Yes, thank you for this…a woman i know..her daughter and her do this and i told her it’s too sensual. Yawl pray for me because i’m forwarding her this article. She needs to know the orgin of this sensual dance. I may do a little hey now for my hubby but i’m glad to know it’s all my style, nothing demonic. I never liked belly dancing it’s always reminded me of a Jezebel or Delilah spirit..like a snake. I”m glad i was on it with this one. Thanks EX!

    @Brother Tetuan
Thank You for this Article ,To God be the Glory!!!
God Bless you + Your Family in Jesus name!

  20. Tonja

Thanks Tetaun, this is very interesting the Devil is very subtle and crafty. Holy Belly Dancing? There is no reason for a christian woman to expose her midriff or dance around like a serpent. A popular church in our city now offers Yoga as a ministry. What’s next?

    • Jesus Saves

I can’t believe that someone would even think to put Yoga and ministry together. If anyone knows anything about Yoga, it’s rooted in occult principles and does not belong in God’s House.
BTW, this reminds about another disturbing fitness trend:poledancing and has been popular for quite sometime.

  21. Taura Helms

I cant bring myself to watch this at all.

  22. Standing Up 4 Holiness & God's Word

REAL Christians WORSHIP Christ, NOT try to seduce (even through Christ is all knowing and powerful and that this IS NOTHING to Him but sin which He {and I} cannot stand) Him with bellydancing!!!!

  23. hvnismyhome

Thank God for discernment…I knew something didn’t feel right about this. At my church the married women were doing this, If I’m not mistaken the singles were too…I thank God I was not able to make it to that conference, I surely would have been looked at crazy for not participating and leaving. I just don’t care any more about what people are thinking of me and my husband, we are looked at as strange because we opt not to do many things that most Christians just jump off into without researching anything, Miming is another one that goes on. God is leading us away from this ministry, pray for us because I and my husband have been feeling something isn’t right for years now. It’s been hard for us because when we started going there, it didn’t seem like that. Or maybe we just refused to see it? Since we started listening to Ex Ministries, God has been confirming what we have been feeling. Pray that he leads us to a TRUTH preaching ministry, and that we just continue in staying humble and being lead by the Holy Spirit.

  24. Wise Angel

I’m not comfortable with it. It’s like krumping to me there is a spirit associated with it. As a Christian I say abstain from it. As for Christian married couples who do this in their privacy of their homes, I say don’t. Stop bringing worldly seductions into the your Godly union. Seek God in all areas in your life including the bedroom. That’s my view on it.

  25. Krezi

@ Titus.. so are you telling me that dancing is a sin? come on now people.. someone trying to learn salsa or meringue is a sin? If you can’t move your feet don’t talk about someone that can.

  26. Krezi

Very informative, but my question is you talked only about egypt or other places.. what about in time of king David, Salomon , Saul and others, i am sure they had woman dancing the same type of dances for them too.. wasn’t it a sin at that time?

  27. Tina.G.

All I got to say is keep feeding the sheep!!!! Thank you!! To God Be The Glory!!!

    • MamiT

Thank you for the insight. I got into belly dancing for the benefit of isometric exercise. Basically I wanted to reduce my waist, keep my hips, & junk in the trunk. After having five kids I needed something to get my mojo back. As a Christian I soon realized that I needed to investigate the origin further. I agree that what is done in the bedroom between married folks stays in the bedroom! I live in the south & have not heard of any straight belly dancing classes in God’s house but they do have a lot of churches doing Zumba classes. Unless dance is done for the purpose of praise to music that ultimately worships the almighty it has no place in the church. In the privacy of my own home I will still do my bellydance dvd’s because I am determined to get this waist small like it was when I got married!

  28. Marlon

Over the past 10 years, I have watched Eastern culture slowly, but strongly creep into the houses of American Christians. It has always been in Hollywood, but there were some things that Christians would not accept. Our people are really allowing themselves to be deceived. I am hearing the tone of Christians accept personal ignorance and deny Godly wisdom, because they are scared to accept the truth of Christian life. The truth is, we are suppose to be separate from the world, especially when we know better and the enemy is exposed. We use television, music, people who haven’t found Christ and live secular lifestyles, to lead us through life, which doesnt make sense, if God gave us the holy spirit.

I have an 8 year old daughter. Last year, this lady from church was allowing another girl in church practice miming in front of my daughter one day, with the mask on and everything. My daughter loves to dance, so when I walked in and saw this occuring, I said, OK, now I have to hurt my daughter’s feelings and tell her that she is not going to take part in this. So we left the room and my daughter looked at me with a little suspicion. I asked her what do you think about what the other girl was doing. She looked at me and said, “Daddy, it didn’t feel right.” I asked, “What do you mean by that.” She said, “I don’t know. I can’t explain it, but it just felt weird.” LOL! I was like, Thank God. He made that one easy for me. But, my thing is, if my 7 year old daughter, at that time, knew something wasnt right, without anyone telling her, why can’t some of these silly grown ups understand that. People we have to call on the Holy Spirit to guide us at all times.

I watched the TTBHH V where Pastor Lewis talked about miming, but even before then, I knew something didn’t feel right about it. I just didnt know the history of it. I know a woman that I went to school with who really believes this is the highest form of worship in her relationship with Christ. And she has ensured that her adolescent son is just as involved as she is.

Christian people please call on God’s Comforter at all times. Technically, He is our true guide. Stop treating your pastors and bishops like they are God. They need us just as much as we need them. If you recognize this Eastern culture rituals or may be in question on the truth of them, please get on your knees and ask God for guidance and truth. If you are convicted, repent and turn away from these things. May Christ not just be with you, but may He be in you.

  29. Tiffany D.

Wow! My sister in Christ just asled me if i wanted to take pole dancing for my birthday…we are both happily married, but i said no thx. What God kept me from i won ‘t start now! We must be careful Saints. What if I were to do that for my husband and it sparked a desire in him for porn or strippers???

  30. Stephanieb

I agree Jade that most of these dances, or “exercises” like belly dancing and yoga are spiritual in nature. You can just look at the way they move and tell that these dances are demonic, especially, belly dancing, i.e., dancing like a snake, “can we say serpent, garden of Eden, hint, hint!! Dancing sexy for your spouse is one thing, but I don’t see the point of doing it amongst a group of people. The person would have to be doing it to arouse others because what other purpose would it serve. And regarding yoga, I tried that a few years ago in an aerobics class in college, and I couldn’t really get into it, and now I know why; it was just pointless to me and boring, but maybe because I wasn’t “spritually” into it, but knowing what I know now, I’m glad that I wasn’t. Very interesting article Tetaun on belly dancing.

    • Jade

      Exactly.

They almost always tell you upfront that is also very relaxing ‘spiritually’ and emotionally. I am always leary of that.

  31. Krystal Herrera

This is so true.Ex ministries are so right!!!Keep up the good work!!!The music of belly dancing is not even Christian it’s true.I listened to rap for 1 year it made me wan’t to do imoral things.Godly music is when melody not rythem take over your body.Hear melodic music try it you will see it will work!!!Come on my Christian brothers and sisters there is better music out there than this pagan Rythmitic music and dances come on now do I have to show you it’s obvious.I now listen to more Melody Christian music.Orthodox chants,Catholic chants are the most beautiful music I have ever heard better than this Pagan stuff.Give it a try you’ll love it!!!

    • KGore

I agree yet disagree. Anything that comes from the Catholic church should be carefully watched because Catholicisim itself is made up of pagan beliefs and especially derrived from Babylonian ancient religions. From the Mitre of Dagon that the Pope wears on his head to Mother Goddes worship of Mary. Catholicism is a perversion of christianity. So is eastern orthodoxy. We aren’t to be “CHANTING” anything. Chants are basically prayers or or saying names of gods in vain repetition. Please search what I’m saying. You’re leading people from mud to mud.

  32. Mimi

Why does the church always try to turn something secular into something spiritual? Turn away from your pagan ways. Leave those things of the world in the world. We cant bless it and make it holy if the origins are not holy.

  33. Titus

I see alot of Christians turning to ZUMBA and dancing to the latin, salsa music, spanish, carribean..etc

    Christian Zumba
    can it be?

    • Stephanieb

I know of a lot of Christians who are into that Zumba too and even have church groups that participate in it on a regular basis; I almost joined a group like that myself, but something (Holy Spirit I believe) kept me from doing so. You’d be surprised how many “Christians” are uneducated about stuff like this!

    • Stephanieb

There are alot of Christians who are really into that Zumba stuff. I know of quite a few who go to the classes on a regular basis and I almost joined one myself, but something (the Holy Spirit I believe) kept me from doing so. You’d be surprised how many “Christians” are uneducated about stuff like this!

  34. MRSBIRDIE

    Christian Strippin will be next…

    • tbrad

lol not funny but I still laughed…………..

    • Tonja

@ MRSBIRDIE, that’s funny but also reminds me of a vision God gave a well known preacher that still preaches fire and brimstone messages. In the vision he saw people at church dancing in the nude as a form of worship.

  35. JC

Good read, people need to quit labeling everything “Christian” in order to push a worldly agenda and just call it for what it is.

  36. Learning

Good information. I want to respectfully ask if the videos/ images (especially the one with Brittany Spears) are necessary? I ask because particularly if what helps one to discern the spirit behind it is the wisdom in the information shared- what makes the information alone insufficient? And the if the seduction described is coming through the eye gate- would the video not detract from from the wisdom gained? Respectfully asked.

    • marletta

      Very good point.

    • Stephanieb

Maybe I’m slow, but I’m not following your question???? The picture of Brittany Spears was a form of belly dancing because I remember when she did that performance, and that’s the kind of dancing that she was doing, Beyonce too!!

      • marletta

        @Stephanieb:
You, slow? I beg to differ, Miss Step; you’re on everybody’s train, girl.:-D BTW, You’re one of the few people on here whose comments I tend to enjoy reading, and that’s b/c you are a very expressive, insightful individual. Bless you!

The point I believe Learning was trying to convey, without sounding too complex: Is it really necessary to use certain graphics, especially when we know — spiritually speaking — it can most definitely become a distraction particularly for those who may be struggling with their flesh, yet wanting to gain the knowledge all the more? As he/she stated: “would not the videos/pictures detract from the wisdom gained? Yes, I believe so.

Christian belly dancing?!? SMH Once again, this is the Devil’s attempt to corrupt the “Christ” name. THE DEVIL’S A LIAR FROM THE PIT!!

Married people: Keep it in the privacy of your home; BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE. …ceiling fan? Hmm…that might be a little awkward.

        Very informative Tetaun! Bless you!

@Stephanieb, I think that Marletta helped us both. Thanks Marletta, that is more of what I hoped to communicate. I ask because I generally understand what is meant by the word bellydancing when the word is used- and I assume the same level of understanding for that word by most who would read beyond the headline. Some images, if we just go with a lower rung of decency, not factoring in an allegiance to Christian ideals or Biblical insight….Some images would be shunned at least initially by the self-described decent person and met with a turned head or a lowered eye because that ground level of decency (even if not sincere) calls for it. If I were to wish to re-iterate my point I would refer to one of the silhouette images on the recent post with Marsha A. in the title. The information- the instruction from the wording is where the strength of the point is made. I sign “Respectfully” because though I read often I do not post often and respect the community of the blog that already exists, not a rabble-rouser, just sharing a gentle reminder of a perspective that I believe we probably agree upon.

Thanks, Marletta. I think I now know what Learning was referring to and I guess I could see how someone could be distracted in looking at the pictures, but I guess too it helps to use visuals sometimes to get a point across, but nevertheless, I definitely see your point Learning. A good example of this would be the recent post about Marsha A. and her video. You could basically give a brief synopsis of what the video is about, but without showing the two men being affectionate in the video, because that for me would be a COMPLETE turnoff and not necessary to get the point across, so I definitely understand what you’re saying now.

Basically, is the pictures and video appropriate? Is not the knowledge given suffice enough without the added visuals. Ie, the videos and pictures of the women in bikini tops with their bellies showing…

Because although it can be informative to some, it could be hinderance to others. Respectfully asked…

the images gives me an idea, it explains some of the dance moves I have seen on tv etc. I can hear about miming but to see a pic of what one is saying brings in the ” Ooh that’s what that is called” factor………….of course I am just saying. If it’s that deep the Holy Ghost will unction you if it’s going to bring about a war in your mind…… God has warned me(by his Spirit)many times on you tube alone not to watch or listen to certain things. Be Blessed. Again……. I was just saying.

  40. carmen

Totally agree dancing that has to do with sexual anything needs to stay in the bedroom with your spouse. To think that people do that in church is outrageaous!

  41. God's choosen

    demonic i my say

  42. 4u2cHIM

The BIBLE says, David danced before the Lord until he danced out of his reignment. It was in the spirit of worship unto the LORD. This seductive act of belly dances these artist like beyonc’e,cierra, rhianna are doing is not of GOD, they do it to please and seduce men for entertainment, attention, worldly gain and for filthy lucre.

  43. Kim Worthy

Just the mere appearance of belly dancing looks like the devil and what’s the sense of belly dancing if you can’t show your belly? In the church!!! Naaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh. Thanks Tetaun.

  44. Keshia

  45. shandre

  46. ohana

    Wow,that’s eerie.I saw a flyer hanging at the bustation,with a Bellydancer.
And I was wondering, what the History ,Origin of Bellydancing is,then I come here, and *boom* I got an answer.
Thank You for the research Sir,the work and the Time .EX ministries Your Work is awesome and very informative.Thank You for keeping us up to date, and for the warnings. The Best we can do is,to stick with God’s word(BIBLE).If it’s not approved by God stay away from it.

    God Bless you all !!!

  47. Chuck

Wow! this is deep. Did anyone notice the small egyptian looking gold cat at the end of the second video. Obviously this dance is very seductive and should not be accepted as christians.

  48. LaVerne

This is a great, eye opening article….

I really never thought anyone would try to make belly dancing “spiritual” or “Christian”…

I mean just from the outfits alone whose church could you walk up in there with that out and say you’ve got a Belly dancing ministry? What pastor or church would support or endorse this?

As it is the praise dancing is working my nerves but belly dancing?!?!? WOW the things folks will do in the name of God or Christianity is amazing to me.

  49. j

ermmm…this is sooo unbelievable poignant for me right now.
You see I’ve recently renewed my gym membership, which includes studio classes and as I missed this morning’s studio sessions, the thought entered my head (albeit very briefly) to join the 1800hr (UK time) belly dancing class, it would have been my first time, however I opted to go straight into the gym instead-thank God.

In hind sight-how crazy was that thought…to think that I even thought of it…hmm.

Whereas I would never, ever entertain the thought of pole dancing (can’t believe we’re even having this conversation), I didn’t feel as strongly about the belly dancing. Of course I should have done considering all that hip shaking, all I was thinking was that I’m very stiff and ungainly and that this would come in very handy whenever I get married (sorry for being so candid).

My very early morning prayer session with the Lord was for His guidance, but it was a sort of imploring kind of prayer for guidance through this day, He has indeed done just that.

Thank you for the information. That thought (re belly dancing) would never again enter my head in Jesus’ name.

  50. Bensy

Wow. That’s no joke. Last year there was an article about the mime here. But I didn’t have the chance to read the whole thing. Bob or anyone do you know about or know where I can find an article about the origin of the mime? When I red a little about the mime I was a little suprise that this to was part of some form of anti-christ worship.

  51. Holly

Christian belly dancing? I have heard it all now. I cannot imagine a women dressed like that and doing an anointed dance on my church’s stage. WOULD NOT HAPPEN. Who would think its okay to come into the house of God like that period? Let alone belly dancing. When I think of belly dancing i think of seduction. No matter what the motive is, when you are moving your hips around like that it is a sexual move! That doesn’t not glorify God..it glorifies sex and the dancers body! Also I never thought about the serpent like movements that they do..hello! People move around like serpents when possessed by demons..not a move I would want to copy!

    • Jade

      RIGHT!!

I have read other women recommending belly dancing on FB for exercise. Like taking classes for it and etc. And that stuff has never sat right in my spirit. They also recommend yoga, and they have also recommended pole dancing for exercising! SMH. Discernment, which comes from the Holy Spirit is a must! Especially these days.

If I choose to dance for my husband in the privacy of my home that is my business. But to use a certain form or practice of dancing, which is obviously not of God. Makes no sense for a Christian to do. Especially when they tout that it is good for your spirit as well, and most of these dances, almost always, say its spiritual as well. SMH, again.
