The origin of Pantomime (mime): It’s not worship it’s entertainment!

It is described as the art of using movement, music and mimicking. Recently this ancient entertainment phenomenon has subtly found a place in our worship services as an expression of worship or as a tool used to portray the gospel.  One self-proclaimed pantomime ministry website stated:  “Ministering mime is interpreting gospel music, using illustrations and non-verbal methods to all the congregation to understand what you are doing just like Ezekiel demonstrated in the Old Testament. But what is really interesting according to the pastors ministry bio,“While listening to a gospel tape by Larnell Harris and praying, she saw a vision of a person doing

creative movements to a gospel song with a white painted face, flowing black clothing loosely fitting and white gloves. She also saw a spotlight shining upon the person. This was the vision for the mime ministry…” said, Donna Darwin IIochi of Covenanted Praise Mime Ministry. EX Times readers this article is written to provide additional information and insight on the origin of pantomime.  If you saw TBHH5 Pastor Lewis spoke about this. The term pantomime is describe as the art of acting without words (facial expressions, gestures, body language) Pantomime: the actor conveys no sound only action; often work with imaginary objects and its based on reality involving a specific action.

Mime: conveys a theme for the body  to become an imaginary object; they use non-verbal sounds and can go beyond reality as the actor expresses an idea. [Hoover Theater Drama One-Study Guide Chp 1] By definition pantomime or “pantomimus” is literally translates to “imitating all.” In ancient Greece it was accompanied by narratives and instrumental music often played on the flute. However, both pantomime and mime are one in the same. The pantomime was a popular form of entertainment in ancient Greece and Rome. Like theater, it encompassed the genres of comedy, tragedy and sex. They both struggled to survive partly because the genre was looked down upon and shunned by the literary elite.  In a speech during the late 1st century AD the orator Aelius Aristides (117 AD-189 AD) a Greek rhetorician and a priest of Zeus condemned pantomime for its erotic content and the effeminacy of its dancing. After the death of Lucius Annaeus Seneca (a Roman philosopher, play writer and advisor of Nero) serious dramatic (literature or art) in Rome ceased, and the newly erected stone theaters were taken over by pantomime as the level of public taste and moral code steadily fell. This genre was very diverse but full of controversy. Most often they were indecent burlesques unto the god Dionysus in which female performers also took part in sexual performances. They featured dialogue, acrobatics, songs, and slapstick routines. During the persecution of the Christian under Nero and Domitian, mimes were used to ridicule the Christian faith on stage.  They mock the Christian faith and their God.

[Sidenote]: It is recorded in Acts 17:22-31 Dionysus was the god who inspired joyful worship, ecstasy and festivals. At these festivals and celebrations mimes, actors and a myriad of entertainment filled the theaters. On the north side of the hill is where Apostle Paul preached the gospel on Mars Hill. Paul was vexed at the sight of false idols and pagan worship that went on in the temple theater. “Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. [ Could this have been the early signs of  today's Hollywood?]

Pantomime is an age old art that’s been on the scene before and after Apostle Paul preached to the gentiles.  In the middle age era pantomimes manage to resurface as jesters, jongleurs, bands, and acrobats. In the year 791, an English priest Alcuin (Alcuin of York) wrote a warning to a friend stating, “The man who brings actors and mimes and dancers to his house knows not what a bevy of unclean spirits follow them.”

Pantomime has transcended all throughout Europe and United States.  Today American (mime) combines acting, play-writing and dancing all courtesy of Paul J. Curtis the founder of American Mime in 1952. Never was this practice a part of our worship services until now:

Pantomime

“Ministering mime is interpreting gospel music, using illustrations and non-verbal methods to all the congregation to understand what you are doing just like Ezekiel demonstrated in the Old Testament.”

In response to the above statement: If pantomime ministry is based on the kind of gospel song you choose to play then according today’s standards we are in trouble. The gospel industry is own and operated by godless people. The hard truth is  “it’s all about the music!” If you take away the music then you are left with white clown faced effeminate dancing with bodies swing and kicking in the air. (like a bad Kung-fu movie) Listen people pantomime is not worship or ministry. Besides you can’t just take what you want and stand before a holy God and worship as you please. Art is entertainment!  Performing arts express emotions and feelings.  The audience is  more focus on the song and being entertained. They’re clapping, crying and getting emotion over music that’s not scriptural or without doctrine. Most of  gospel music today is sensual and self serving.  Who’s idea was it to bring all this mess into the church? I personally blame the African American community.  Churches that have endorsed this behavior should be held accountable for this mess.  Too many of us  act like that 70’s Life Cereal commercial.  “Mickey like it.”  We have become test dummies.

Some churches will just eat anything! ( Mickey like it) Whatever the so called celebrity Bishops do in their conferences we’ll duplicate it and make it a ministry.  “Bring in the mime and give us hip-hop. Better yet  a stripper pole or comedian would be nice. Don’t judge we just want to have fun.” Come on people  it’s very dangerous when ministry is led by popular culture!!  In Ezekiel God judged the Levites for taking musical talent from the Canaanites. They took what belong to the heathens. The Levites recruited them to teach them their talents. The Canaanites were  even invited  in the Temples to worship with them.

Side note: Please go and study Ezekiel Chapters 40- 48

(Ezekiel 44:12-13 Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity (perversion) therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, said the Lord God, and they shall bear their iniquity And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.) In summary, pantomime is just simply entertainment. It is not acceptable worship unto God. Arts and entertainment manipulate and engineer a counterfeit worship and a  soulish emotional response. Too often we worship music more than the creator. When pleasure and entertainment have more value than discipleship, sound doctrine, and biblical teaching we are in trouble. Why is it that popular culture and all forms of entertainment are prerequisite for ministry? Have you ever wondered if any of these pastors every thought to inquire of the Lord?

In Christ, with love,

(Quotes of the day): “This is the FIRST TIME I’ve seen ANYONE denounce the mime dancers. This has been going on in some pentecostal churches for many years. I gotta testify this to you – when I saw it, I thought it was weird, and i JUST DID NOT GET IT. Now i know why!!! But the other people were clapping and crying and hallelujahing and it just left me confused. I didn’t know why, but it just didn’t do anything for me. And i thought it was creepy and weird. And furthermore, I am caucasian and this was ALWAYS in the black church, and WHY WOULD someone wear what they called “blackface” in the early 20th century where it was to MAKE FUN of black people??? yes,, this was a shame to the black people back in that day during vaudeville or something back then. Why then does the black community embrace something that WAS A SHAME one time??? I am so glad this came out because Now i know why that miming offended me.”

“People who dress themselves up as mimes and clowns are literally representing certain types of demonic entities from the fourth dimension. How come occultists know about this and Christians don’t? Those who are so called the body of Christ, should not be using demons to minister the gospel ( or is it the gospel of the Word?) . This is confusion, deception, and just plain evil. God help us in this hour of delusion to discern what is of Him, and what is of the deceiver the Devil. There is no power and no Holy Ghost in most of the people who call themselves the body of Jesus Christ, and the enemy is seeking whom he may devour. Very few have some of the power flowing through them.

What happened to seeking the Holy Ghost, reading and studying the word of God and allowing Him to give you revelation and understanding? Where is the discernment? This would not be happening if people where sincere in the Lord. If this does not disturb a person who calls themselves a child of God, they are not born of the Spirit of God and are programmed by the evil forces at work in the world, and is presently operating in houses of worship. Review Ephesians 6:12; Matthew 7:13, 23; 2 Timothy 2:19.”

“If you send e-mails to argue why you pantomine, then you’ve missed the whole point behind this article. Bottom line pantomime; ‘It’s churchy entertainment!’ God has not commissioned you to mime folks to Christ. Come on seriously? Cut it out people. Entertainment is not a calling from God nor is a spiritual gift  ~ Tetaun

Ezekiel the prophet did not pantomine his prohecies or messages. He acted out and moved about while he prophecied. Pantomine would mean that he did not speak but that he moved while someone else prophecied. The closes thing I could find to explain mime in the church is the fact that Ezekiel acted out the prophecies as he spoke them. This is more like our preaches that use hand gestures. Sometimes my pastor will not only use hand gestures but he will give demonstations such as walking or bowing down while he gives a sermon. This reminds me of Ezekiel. I have seen Mime dance and I believe it would be effective without the facepaint as a dance of encouragement to the people. I have an issue with it being used as a form of worship, knowing the history of it. However, I have witnessed mime that was intertaining and it did tell the story of the dance through mime with the sad face, happy face, surprised face, and monotone face. I am asking GOD to help me understand the use of mime and hip-hop gospel dance. It seems like we are attempting to reach people where they are much like the Catholic church did when they were trying to convert the pagens. Many things that the church does have pagen over-tones. I understand the Levites of the Tabernacle, I understand the Miram gathered the women together to dance( prophetic), I understand Prophets acting out their message while they speak. However, I am having a difficult time understanding the use of hip-hop dance and mime dance being intergrated into regular church services. It is almost like…the enemy saw praise and worship go to another level with dance and giving GOD glory so he had to stir up the ministry of encouragement to GOD’s people instead. Where the focus is often on the people and what GOD has done or can do for them instead of the focus on GOD for who he is and his mighty works! We do need songs that encourage us but can’t we corporately worship GOD and give Him what he deserves? Can’t we corporately just praise and worship him and not ask him for anything. Can we take out some time where all we do is worship Him. How is it that we can sing one song of worship and then the rest of the service the songs are all about us. Where the focus is on songs that encourage the saints and not songs to GOD. Why do we have to meet people where they are on Sundays? I thought the word of GOD stated that “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to me”! Now we have to have break dancers for GOD, or pop lockers, or step teams, or mime because we need to draw the youth…When did GOD say we would draw anyone? Just pray for me because this is a real issue for me. I have stepped on a lot of toes concerning this. I do not want to offend my brothers and sisters but I have always felt that we should resemble the Levites and how they worshiped in the temple. I am coming off as self-rightous or overbearing. Maybe a sinner would come to a church and see the teens “beefin it up” as the teens say and thus making it comfortable for them and then they give their life after the sermon. I do not know what to think. Honestly, I have heard both sides and then there is my heart condition concerning these types of dance. There is a place for this but in my opinoin not in the Holy Place. Maybe as a outreach or a play that would not only entertain but also leave a spiritual impression on the people. I am in tears because I have offended some of my sisters and brothers in Christ concerning this and I know that they have good intensions and love the lord. Until GOD shows me otherwise I can worship GOD through sign, dance, with flags, banners ect. but I am uncomfortable teaching or participating in mime or hip-hop/urban dance at the alter. I love to dance! I can get down with the best of them at a party, wedding, celebration, etc but something inside me leans more toward liturgical dance as a form of worship. I am seeking GOD’s direction.

Okay, so at one time I thought that the face painting was in reference for one to not pay attention to the flesh but the message. I have not ministered in the white face before but I have ministered where as the words to the song was so powerful the anointing God releases at the time for that purpose touch the hearts of unsaved folks and they were Saved. I have seen it as long as God is glorified and souls are being Saved, To God be the Glory!

  3. CLAY says:

DO YOU HAVE TO PAINT UR FACE AND DRESS UP LIKE THIS TO WORSHIP GOD……?

  4. Dancing says:

I agree with your article entirely! First of all, pantomime and mime are two different arts. Your comment on the end that the leaders should inquire of the Lord sums it up. A lot of churches are doing it because the other churches are doing it and not considering the Holy Ghost Host of the House. With all of the “sacred” arts being presented in the church are arts that are really self serving and to bring in more visitors or attraction to a church. Being a professional dancer for many years, I have a problem with the attitude of those in the sacred arts ministry trying to equate their ministries with secular performance production companies. Even the attitudes of praise dancers and mime “ministers” are so unChrist like. These individuals perceive themselves as real secular artist like Rhiana, Michael Jackson, Usher or some other modern day entertainer. There is no real humility, knowledge of their craft, real Christian worship.

The Clergy back in the early church that participated in liturgical worship used gestures, movement and dance during some sacrements, but it was purely for the service of the church and the House of the Lord. When the Lord called me out of the secular world to “dance for Him,” He meant that! I had to leave all of the lusts, pride, ego, self-serving attitude back at the dance studio.

This form of ministry is creating a bunch of little monsters with terrible competitive spirits.

I agree, I always had a funny feeling about Mimes. I never got it. To be honest I think they are a little creepy. Great article

  6. k.euseary says:

I agree. Miming in the church is totally Godless. it has nothing to do do with winning souls to Christ. last i checked creeping around in a mask was not a spiritual gift. I just discovered this abomination and i was floored. All of the praise goes to the performer. I know i wasnt thinking about His goodness as i watched the show. Lord help us, they tryna turn the church into a circus.

  7. janet says:

Well, I did like pantomime as an art form, but what creeped me out in the beginning was the white faces on black people. I don’t think that they understand that it looks demonic, scary, creepy. Why would they use something that looks this way to minister to church people?

In response to what was written above about the history of the white face, I saw a movie called Minstrel Man about that time period where blacks had to put on the black face paint and perform comedy skits portraying the Black man as stupid or as having a low intelligence level. At the end of this movie, one of the men got so mad and tired of seeing black men do this, he went and put on white face to protest the comedy art form.

Just giving something extra about white face, no point to be made.

Wow, great article. I first saw a mime in San Fran, Cali when I was a little girl, and ever since then they have given me, well the creeps! I thought it first originated in France but this article has taught this old dog, 56, something new! And when you expose the wicked the Truth becomes brighter! Thank you for giving me a heads up on the history of this wicked practice in the church! God bless you all at EX Ministries, you are always in my prayers!

Sorry to change the subject but, what about Krumping. This has been expressed by the creator “Tight Eyez” that it is originally and still a praise dance. Although violent, sometimes it confuses me. As a dancer I like it, and like anything else it was commercialized. I havent thoroughly navigated this website, but I would be interested in your take on that. Great website by the way, I stumbled on too it

I have wondered my entire life, what is it about my people that we just can’t pull it together. Growing up i was called an “uncle tom” or that i wanted to be “white” simply because i did not get into the things other kids in school were into, i would read books, study, do homework, and because i wanted to be smart, i was called a sell out. I’m thinking come on black people, so to be smart is to be white? so what does that say about us, that being dumb is to be black? so i have to pull my pants down, wear my hat all crazy and speak so folks can’t understand me, so to be black is to have the latest pair of jordan’s? and listen to some rapper. I am sick and tired of seeing my people killing themselves with this mess, black people are all about culture and the latest fashion, what’s hip and who is wearing that, i miss the days of quality among my people, if Martin Luther King jr. were here today he would out right ashamed to identify himself with us today, thank God, not all of us, there are some black men who still have integrity.

The world is already antichrist, so why fool with them, but the church is the salt of the earth, and if we lose it, it’s over, i mean game over, when the church loses, it’s all over, and brother, we are close to losing it all, we have to fight these crazy folks with strong conviction, say it loud, and pray. I will stand with you, no doubt.

  16. Shalyn Fuller says:

    What about 1 Corinthians 12:4-6????

    REPLY:

    1 Corinthians 12:4-6 reads
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

First of all Mime has absolutely nothing to do with the gifts of the spirit. Mime is talent. In essence mime deals with the arts. Prostitutes can be talented but that does not mean that they are “spirirtually gifted.” The text interprets itself because if you were to keep reading down to verse 11, it reveals what specific gifts 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 is referring to.

    1 Corinthians 12:7-11
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same[a] Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

This is what happens when you proof text. When you proof text, you can take the a passage of scripture and start movements that are contrary to the Word of God. This is why we have Christians starting whore ministries, preaching pimps, mime, holy hip-hop, etc.

I agree the 90% of not only mime but dance ministries are sololy for entertainment, because pastor are just allowing people to get up there and do it. And most cant even dance. Also with the the priase teams and choirs, there is a strong spirit of intertainment and spirit of competition in the church when is come to these ministries.
WE have dance ministries in our chruch and they are put through the same type biblical training that inspiring ministers and other minister are put throw (and let me say that people have turned way from the teaching because people want to sit under any minister as long as God dont get into there business) with that being said i have witness salvation deliverance and break through for our drama department which includes mime and anytime they are invited anywhere the first thing is they pray why they got the invite and if it is accepted most have the time have to pray against the spirit of entertainment and competition, and have sang that break them if they and to dance it.
Every good and perfect gift come from above. It is man that perverts them for self gain.

I didn’t read all of the comments, but doesn’t the White face represent death? In most instances that I’ve seen, the white face usually represents death. From Voodoo (Vodun) to other forms of Witchcraft and occult practices.

The first time I saw Miming in my church I felt very uneasy. Some Christians have this bad habit of wanting to use pagan culture and mix it with the “Church” (Easter aka Pagan God of fertility, Christmas, Hip-Hop and other things) . Some have good intentions, and others do it purely out of ignorance. In this day and time, I truly think education on the past within the church is a must! Our children are growing up in a media driven society that puts all sorts of pagan/occult influences in front of them DAILY. They wont know unless educated Christians get pro active within our families and Churches and fight these things that are rushing into our congregations like a flood.

    • Barbara Miller says:

I agree with you totally. I had a dream when the Lord was dealing with me about prophesying, He said prophesy, prophesy my people perish for a lack of knowledge. The Body of Christ does lack knowledge. And a lot of Churches seem to shy away from true prophesy.

  24. Praise and Worship says:

I would also consider the origins of where clowns come from and the original intent. Really you can’t take things that were made for pagans and think you’re “cleaning” them for God. I was listening to a youth hip hop gospel radio station while traveling and the discussion was on “changing the old folks form of evangelism to what works with the youth”. I grew up with hip hop and always knew that the two were to be distinct of each other.

    • Malcolm says:

It’s funny how some youth likes this and some don’t. We have a group in our denomination called GYC (Generation Youth for Christ) They don’t like the new stuff that’s coming out ie. Miming, gospel rock, they say that’s not in the Bible or it;s not Godly. Get back to the Bible and get to know God.

    • Felicia says:

In Voodoo it does represent death. Also, the white face is clown make-up and pantomine’s history of that of comedy. This is why it is hard for me to swallow mime as worship. I look at it as entertaining and a outreach tool. I look at worship dance as a dance to glorify GOD! I do not even like to participate in dances of encouragement very often. The words and movements are to cause us to think and reflect or to bring those that are lost to repentance. I am compelled, more than ever to focus my worship on lifting up GOD through coroporate worship and personal worship. I am deeply troubled by this. I am glad that this forum is here. I personally will not participate in this type of dance and I will pray that my sisters and brothers will get this revelation as well. Many youth see this as something they can do rather than liturgical dance or waving banners an flags.

My children performed in a miming performance to He’s Not Dead by Kirk Franklin. I felt very good about it until we painted hteir faces. When they came out of the room to go up on the platform the first thing I noticed was the reaction of the children. They were afraid. I knew then that if they were to do it again they could not paint their faces. Nothing should invoke fear in anyone at church. What is your opinion about signing or miming without a painted face? Is it still entertainment? i like out the words of the song was emphasized. It seemed to make the words stand out. But I do not mind being shown the truth about anything. I want to go to heaven. Nothing is more important than that. But I put the miming or signing in the category of dance. What is the bible talking about when it talks about praising God with dance?

just a question for my better understanding you would consider signing dance, how I am in the process of learning sign I have another post on this web site under”J.L” but anyway I have always had this earge to learn sign language no matter how much i tried to avoid it. the sign for “Deaf” is the sign Jesus used to help the deaf man in the bible hear. I think that mime and sign are some what close but the difference is that if you cut the music and everything and just talk the signer can still relay the message oppose to the mimers.. Please correct me if I am wrong

  32. churchkid says:

God didnt kill Abihu and Nadah for sin it self, but for bringing strange fires in a Holy place, why people of God offer demonic praises unto God is beyond me…..church is Holy and should stay that way…..God have mercy on ur people

  33. releasing_the_chains says:

Thank you EX Ministries as always for exposing truth as always.

I was reading out of Ezekiel today & found out that Ezekiel “pantomimed” BUT read chapters 1-9 because it goes into explaining how the Lord commissioned him & gave him the visions of the coming siege of Jerusalem & the complete destruction of Judah. Ezekiel was a street prophet & watchmen being sent to warn the people through certain acts the Lord commanded him to perform. He was told not to speak until God filled him with the words to say so that the people knew whatever he said was God’s message, and they didn’t have to wonder whether Ezekiel was speaking by God’s authority or his own. When he was told to speak & prophesy unto the people it was to get the people to repent & turn away from their sins. Ezekiel performed the most pantomimes than any prophet I could find.

So before people think it’s okay to do, understand that Ezekiel and other prophets were filled w/ the Holy Spirit to symbolically pantomime certain acts of prophecy. These were to be signs of the JUDGMENT the people were facing for their rebellion & idolatry, NOT as entertainment or a form of worship.

You can read about these pantomimed actions in Ezekiel as given above, 1 Kings 11:29-39 & 22:11, Isaiah 20:2, and Jeremiah 19:1-13
    God Bless you EXM!

  34. kdbeard says:

Pastor, thank you for the Word. What is the truth behind “praise dancing”? Is this also considered “entertainment”? Just like mime and musical services, I have a weird feeling about praise dance. Correct me if I am wrong for I always seek the truth.

    • Nicole Williams says:

I CAN’T WAIT TILL I START PRAISE DANCING AGAIN. IT DOES SAY IN THE BIBLE (PSALM 150:4) PRAISE THEM IN A DANCE. ONLY REASON I’M NOT DOING IT NOW IS BECAUSE I HAVE TO FOCUS SOLELY ON SCHOOL RIGHT NOW. BUT ONCE I COME BACK, WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. Mary T says:

This is the FIRST TIME I’ve seen ANYONE denounce the mime dancers. I am so glad this came out because Now i know why that miming offended me.

  36. Nicole says:

because they ‘ve mimed under the anointing. It has been like that when the choir has sung under the same anointing.

Reply: haaaa ok take away the music a what do you have? The joker

  37. Pastor Fred Price Jr. says:

Man this is just the ammo I need for one of my lessons.

  38. Kijuanna says:

Thanks so much for the article. My prayer is that our bro. & sis. in Christ will open their eyes to see the truth. The end is approaching us way too fast for the body to justifying secular entertainment (miming) as a form of worship just because some so-called christian music is thrown in the act & get the congergation all emotional! I can say when I witness it myself, I thoguht “Okay” but I did not get into the hype. If the body would understand that we cannot use whats in the world. It must STAYS in the world. Go to the theather to watch miming. Next thing you know we will be told bleach and rat posin will be safe to drink and eat! IF we all would take our spirit man more serious, we would not “feed” it anything assuming its holy!

  39. Tk says:

I’m not sure about this one. Because I have a friend who mimes and has a speech impediment and he firmly believes that it is his ministry, because he stutters. And when he does mime, nothing about it is remotely show. But when he is in the spirit, he can speak totally fine.

Reply: Unfortunately miming has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit! Come on cut it out!

    • Sherry says:

God will not be mocked. Satan always tries to take the fruit of God and use it in a satanic manner because he is anti-christ. (Against all that is Godly) I know in my soul that when a mime steps onto Gods platform the devil is laughing and rolling on the floor and that God is not pleased. (For you will know the spirit by the spirit) Satan would like nothing better, than to be glorified in God’s house, remember he wants to be like God he wants to rise above the clouds and sit on the right hand of God. He (satan) wants to be worshipped like God, that’s why he was kicked out of heaven in the first place. Be careful christians, just because you see something being done in church doesn’t make it a good thing. Exorcise your discernment and if it doesn’t feel right then it probably isn’t.

  40. Diashecia says:

These Bozo looking clowns needs to sit down somewhere. For real!

  41. prayrwarrior says:

I was in a mime dance group in my former church. I had on the mask and a little girl saw me and started backing away from me! Time and again I fought back the urge to quit the group before, but once I saw that, I knew it was time for me to go. My spirit wrestled me not to do it at all, I never felt comfortable. I did not know it was a form of demon worship, this is why I was never comfortable with it. Soon as I saw the little girl’s face, I knew it was wrong. And I will never do it again.

  42. remnantcall says:

Oh, Hallelujah! The truth about Mime is finally being told with information needed. Now anyone that would read this and still do and allow this in their churches are seeking after their own way, and not the way of God. Thank you Minister Tetaun for that revelation. Let the real church say, “AMEN” and Selah.

  43. Child of God says:

    Good article:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God.

Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the WORD of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Key word here is WORD! WORD! WORD! Speak it. miming has no place when it comes to spreading God’s word. If a random person walked by and saw the act then left, would the experience draw them closer to God or make them ask serious questions regarding their stand about God’s kingdom? I doubt it.

  44. Soldierpsalmist says:

I didn’t know better until two years ago when I decided to do my research and haven’t done mime SINCE! I And to think…..I’ve started this ‘mess’ in TWO DIFFERENT MINISTRIES! Thankfully it didn’t continue in either ministry long after I left.

  45. spiritualwarfare says:

Thanks and God bless exministires for revealing truth. I didn’t know much about mime until seeing tbhh and reading this article. However when I saw it, it didn’t sit right with me. It was weird and creepy looking! When you pray and go to God for guidance, he shows and reveals so many things to you. I haven’t been to church in quite a while, because of all the madness that has crept into the church. My barber and I always talk about the illuminati and the satanic agenda that’s being pushed worldwide. He’s been asking me for a while now to come to his church and I’ve been hesitant. I met a minister of his church while in the barbershop the other day and we discussed the many things like the word of God, the lgbt agenda, the music and entertainment demonic agenda as well. I was surprised he was aware of these issues because church folks just can’t believe these things exist! Iwas also surprised he knew about Anton Levays church of satan, of which many celebrities are influenced. I told him about pastor Lewis and exministries. I’m going to go to the church tomorrow, I just thank God for guiding me towards exministries, because when I go I know what to look for. God bless

  46. mt says:

to be quite honest, that picture at the top looks like michael myers from halloween or jason, one of them. bottom line is if it came from the world, it shouldnt be in church. i refuse to go to a church where they mime, which means theres almost no church left to go to, but we must worship God in spirit and in truth, if it came from false god worship, it aint the truth, which means, God aint in it, and he aint gonna have no other gods before him, so if theres miming goin on in the church, then the true and Living God cant be there, thts impossible, because whn you move the false on in, you push the real one out! its not ministry, its foolishness, just like stepping in the church, and singing we want the funk with the choir in the back doin the cabbage patch,

    • Patricia says:

I was thinking basicly the same thing. This looks very evil. People are doing whatever they want to do. It would seem that people would rather be entertained than be in the presence of Abba Father (God). This is a sad time we are living in. Men are really just into pleasing themselves, which is just a part of the last days. I honestly have a problem with going into a church and seeing a skit that has male characters being performed by women and this is all for entertainment. It would appear that they do not know what kind of doors they are opening to satan. If we walked in the spirit of God then we would not make those kind of errors. It is indeed a sad time, people are just consumed with self.

  47. JC says:

“Ministering mime is interpreting gospel music, using illustrations and non-verbal methods to all the congregation to understand what you are doing just like Ezekiel demonstrated in the Old Testament.”

    YEAH RIGHT!

There is NO subsitute for the WORD!

  48. Bensy says:

Thanks for the info tetaun. I needed that info.

  49. jimmy says:

The scripture says, let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus. It does not say, let this mime be in you! It is time the body of Christ WAKE OUT of SLEEP for the Lord is drawing closer than we think. Mr. Kirk F. and Steve H. NEED DELIVERANCE and NEED to be filled with the Holy Ghost. How can you mix the Godly with the profane? and it still be alright? EX keep preaching and exposing these un-godly artists and may SH will one day be filled and really teach the truth about these ‘entertainers”. GOD let us AWAKE to RIGHTEOUSNESS>

  50. Taura Helms says:

When I see this, it reminds me of those scary movies with Jason coming and killing people. Mimes have always scared me.

  51. Darianmk says:

The problem with the so called “Church folks” is that they want to bring the things of the world and all of the world’s mess into the church, and then want to stamp “ministry” or “gospel” on the end of it (i.e, Fashion Ministry, The Married Couples Dance Ministry, Hip Hop Ministry, MINES ministry, etc). I mean what’s next the “Stripping Ministry”. In the Old Testament there was a reason why God would tell the Children of Israel to destory all the inhabitants of the lands they were conquering before entering it as they headed towards the Promise Lands: (1) God didn’t want His Chosen people to be contaminated by the worship of the many gods in these lands, influences, and cultural practices of the indigenous, and (2) God’s presence that follow and protected the Children of Israel by day and night wasn’t about to enter nor dwell in a unclean and unholy land where the people worship idol gods.
So my question is this, why do some blind Christian believe it’s okay to bring the unclean and unholy practices of the world into the body of Christ and then say it’s for the purpose of worshipping Christ??? It doesn’t make sense, but yet when you try to tell these blind Christians about the origins behind these demonic practices, they think you’re either trying to “stop their flow”, “hinder their false anionting”, or you’re just “haterading” on them. They don’t understand that it’s not in hate but love we’re trying tell them.

  52. hvnismyhome says:

    Amen! Keep preaching the truth!!

  53. Lisa says:

Thank you for this. A few years ago we started doing this in our church and I was floored. I knew it was wrong and hated to sit through it. I thought I was being to holy and that the pastor knew what was best for the church. I did my research on this to see why I felt this way. Since then I have grown in the Lord. I know that I don’t have to accept everything nor entertain it.

This is not worship unto God! May you all be blessed and heaven smile upon you!

    • In Love With Jesus says:

Our church totally did this until they heard about it from EX Times and now it’s gone. I never liked it…it scared me when i first saw it and in the Body of Christ I feel we shouldn’t wear masks. That’s called “needing deliverance” when we’re covering up something. I’ve heard so many ‘excuses’ but at the end of the day church is not supposed to be a talent show! No shade on christian rappers because i know some real ones (where there is real there is always a counterfeit) but, if i hear one more “christian rapper” come to my church talking about something carnal and dancing carnally…in the middle of a sunday service i will walk out…i really can’t take it no more! Jesus don’t need to borrow anything from the enemy, He’s creative and pure all by Himself, He don’t need nobody else. We gotta stop pimpin’ our gifts and prostituting them and taking the purity out of it. Seriously! Just dance before God, or step for Him, but you don’t need no Mask. We’re in the times where the Chruch needs to take off their masks!!

  54. Eric Morst says:

Scary clown guys dancing to religious music. Homosexual people running worship services. Non-Christian superstars endorsing pseudo-Christian events. All of this and more to bring in the lost? Who invites an unsaved non-Christian to a worship service? Maybe we need to just have services go back to being boring; now I miss those days. At least then we possibly could have a room of Christians worship with a room of Christians.

  55. ohana says:

    I have one question.
I was wondering about clowns, what origins do they have??They might be funny to some people, they still kinda creepy, and most children cry first, befor the clown get silly.
My Kids don’t like clowns at all.

I remember Tommy the clown, and his krumping.

  56. Lover of Truth says:

ITS DEMONIC…next! I’m noticing that satan barely even uses his sheeps clothin these days………ppl STILL getting fooled…….

Satanic person: “Hi I hate Jesus but can I come PERFORM at ur pastor appriciation?”
Random idiot with a title: “sure, since u have a great follwing of lost hell bound delusional ppl with MONEY…I’m sure the offering will cover ur anti christ-ness”

  57. Standing Up 4 Holiness & God's Word says:

Thanks EX Ministries for taking the BLINDERS off my eyes on miming!!!! Because I personally thought that it was a form a worship to God and not a demonic distraction, but I was wrong, VERY wrong!! Thanks again!

  58. CeeDee says:

OK, so…Your advice to those in churches where miming is happening—and where the ministries are convinced its worthwhile, but the preached Word is still going forth strongly?

    • G. Craige Lewis says:

Just stop it. IT’s foolishness. Why would anyone even desire to have these spooky beings hovering around their church stage while some homosexual is singing a gospel song playing over the loudspeakers? Sounds like a recipe for demonic infestation! Lord, your people are so blind. They can’t even see the evil in the white washed faces! Lord have mercy.

      • Lover of Truth says:

SPOOKY INDEED! I have seen children literally scream and want to leave when those day of the dead reps come out……….how could that be holy? Black lips and a pale face….I spoke against it…didn’t care what ppl said…its demonic……..bottom line…..two ppl in my fam was invloved….didn’t care..still told them it was demonic……..smh

      • Mckinney says:

Some people just have the spirit of dumb!

      • Cherylock says:

Did not see the movie with Tom Cruse, Eyes Wide Shut, but saw clips on youtube where all the people at the satanic ritual are wearing masks. This looks no differant. Please stop this junk.

    • Nicole Williams says:

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SOMETIMES AFTER OUR MIMERS MIME, THE ANOINTING IS SO HIGH, MY PASTOR CAN’T EVEN PREACH

      Reply: I wonder why…

  59. Sonjees says:

I watched some of the mimes on youtube miming to different gospel songs, thought to myself different but also creepy too, put to the gospel music I kinda went along with it…until I watched TBHH5. All praises and thanks to the Lord for Exministries! And for bringing this and so many other things to the fore-front that surely needs to be exposed. To God be the glory!

  60. Erika says:

You can always tell the posts that strike a nerve….comment count is real low. I love it! More knowledge. We (the black church) are going to get enough of following the pack into any and everything. Most of us learned growing up that if everybody is doing it then it’s probably not good for you. Same applies for the church. One day we are going to start reading and educate ourselves, starting with the bible. Not everything can fit through the narrow gate.

  61. TrueBeauty says:

Wow!!!!!!! EX Ministries and Elder G. Craige Lewis, Jesus sure has anointed your ministry!! When I was in high school, I was part of my former church high school Mine ministry. For two years, we traveled to different places in my hometown, “miming” the Gospel to the unsaved. I thought it was fun and wonderful to do something for the kingdom of Jesus!! In fact, I was happy that someone complimented on how I potrayed Jesus in one act! (Mind you, I was black attending a predominant white church). So, up until I seen this article, I thought Mime was a wonderful tool to share the Gospel unto the world. Boy, how wrong I was… Thanks for researching this vital topic and sharing it with the Body of Christ!!

  62. Denise says:

    How creepy and scary

  63. G. Craige Lewis says:

So, if they did it in black face, would it be ok? Black face was created to degenrate blacks and the spirit is still behind it. If I was to preach or dance in black face, folks would run me out the church. So, why is it we can change the origin of some things and keep the origin of others? This is so dumb. Why? Why? Why?

    • Kim Worthy says:

That’s my point Pastor Lewis, if black face was bad, what makes the white face good??? On that alone, I would have to take a second look. A lot of parents push there kids in this but the parents should know their history.

    • Wanda.r says:

AMEN Pastor Craige!!! If this is ministry, preachers should just start coming out with white/black face with so called gospel music playing in the background and never speak one word…just a bunch of facial and body gestures…SPIRIT OF DUMB!!!! But some people would love it…smh

      • Bonita says:

LoL….ROFLOL………. you is funny! I did a mental image of your comment and I can not stop laughing!!!!!!!

    • swa says:

Ok, so I need more clarification on this. I go to a church where the WORD of GOD is preached, UNADULTERATED. No compromising the WORD at all. We have a mime team (though we don’t mime per se; to me it’s just a dance team), and we don’t paint our faces at all-our pastor would never allow it, and I’m cool with that. Also, we don’t dance to the songs that the popular mainstream, carnal churches usually showcase. I, myself, don’t believe that organized dance in the church is a sin/ demonic distraction, but do understand that we must be very careful as to how we present bc the devil can easily taint what is not intended to be a subliminal display of demonic undertones.

I believe that dance, when coupled with fasting and prayer, can actually be a powerful weapon of warfare.

Please, if I am completely missing something here, let me know. I truly want to serve the LORD in Holiness.

      • tjlr says:

That’s a great question, and I was thinking the same thing. Don’t have an answer though, but since they are not speaking and it is an orchestrated dance, then the answer should be it isn’t ok, but maybe I am wrong.

      • pastor J says:

Thy will be done on eath as it is in Heaven…For true worship unto God, Read Rev.4 & 5 and see how the four beast and the four and twenty eldes and the angels and every other creature worship God…With a LOUD VOICE SAYING….(read it for yourself). The Holy Spirit is real. He will guide you into all truth….I always felt there was something wrong. now know for sure. that this is demonic, affirmative.

  64. Kim Worthy says:

This mime stuff is down right scary looking also which I have a hard time understanding how anyone could allow this in church. The negativity that was associated with “black face”, how we fell for mime , just on that alone I’ll never know. Check the “band wagon” out thoroughly before we hop on, PLEASE!!!

  65. Jade says:

Thank you so much for all the informative posts and the background history on a some of the things that are being tagged with the word “christian”. The church I use to go to had a mime ministry. They really are everywhere. I think it’s also very very interesting, that you also showed where it originally came into the Black Church. So many false things have been introduced to the church by these carnal churches and mega flesh conferences. It’s really sad to see how so many can be easily influenced and follow after all this ungodly entertainment . When I think about how everything has just been trickling down, it grieves ones spirit.

    • Ronetra says:

The Bible says we “perish because of a lack of knowledge.” You know I have a talent to dance and use to dance at my church. The last time I danced was 3 years ago. People from my ministry sometimes ask me if I am going to dance again. But honestly, it was more of a performance to me instead of true worshiping and praising God. Now I don’t have the interest of dancing if its not transparent and true worship. It me to mature in the word of God and also self-reflection to realize that.

      • Jade says:

So true, the Holy Spirit, will press you, when you make room for it, that certain things are wrong. Saints a God we must never ignore that, even if we don’t understand it.

  66. Joshua says:

Tetaun, I agree with you 150% on this one. I never saw TBHH part 5 and I knew something had been wrong with pantomime. I had done my own research on it last year and I saw the same things you put in this article. But, when I had warned some people about it, I didn’t get a welcome response. Is there a way to print this out? When I did the old research I made the mistake of not copying it to show others. I’m afraid that this might start to spread in my own church and I want to help nip this in the bud. Keep preaching the truth. I will keep EX ministries in my prayers.

  67. Cherylock says:

I never got a warm fuzzy in church when I saw a mime performance. I always close my eyes because it was just spooky to me. Now I know why! Its SPOOKY!

    • Lover of Truth says:

I tried closing my eyes but it was too demonic I had to leave smh…and it was a “surprise” …….they knew something was wrong with it so they secretly added that mess in the service….never again,…..that was the last straw with that “ministry”……

  68. r morris says:

I remember TTBHH Part 5 talked about this as well. It’s like Pastor Lewis said, you gotta do your research before you decide to bring anything into your home and especially in the church. Just because the Mega church does it and you see it on TV doesn’t make it okay. Moral of the story, do your homework!

  69. ApostolicWOG says:

This is a very well put together article, thank you, but I have a question…

What if you’re not miming a song, but rather an anointed sermon?

Reason I’m asking is, at the church I attend there’s a mime duo, who are very anointed of God, one a singer and the other a minister, and you literally can feel God whenever they minister! We’re had people who were visiting come back to the church and say, they really ministered to me. And in my personal experience I may’ve been going through something and next thing I know the sermon their acting out is exactly what I needed to hear!

Now again, they don’t do music, just sermons… I’m not trying to look for a loop hole, but is there a difference if its preaching and not as you called it, sensual music?

    • Patricia says:

I don’t understand, why mime when God has giving you a voice. I think it is the word that needs to be heard. Why stand there with white whatever on your face and not speak? I went to a church where I thought deliverance was going on because people where foaming out of their mouths and I actually thought I felt the anointing of God in that place. I am not saying that these people are not anoited, but you need to make sure, because one day I was sitting up in this church and God just started revealing things to me. God show me that there was a seducing spirit in that church. I had a very difficult time believing it, because of what I had seen and thought I had felt. When I finally recieved what the Lord was showing me I got out of there. When somebody starts a trend or something, then it seems as though everyone wants to be a part of it. I am just trying to understand, why they are mimicking sermons? Also, I just wanted to share my experience.

    • Alicia says:

@ ApostolicWOG…When people say they “feel God” they are simply referring to the adrenaline produced during an emotionally stimulating experience. Individuals who attend concerts and events for secular entertainers experience the same euphoria. I would ask the individuals who claimed to have “been ministered to” to elaborate. They probably haven’t received a deeper connection or understanding of whom God is or His will for them. They had a feel good experience that made them happy and gave a temporary high. Being sober minded speaks to more than just drunkeness from liquor or drugs. It also speaks to altered states of consciesness. Satan has entered the “church” and set up camp. He has introduced all kinds of distracting wickedness and calls it “ministry”. Beds in the pulpit for talks about sex and love, strobe lights and techno music for the rave experience to talk about drugs, and mime and liturgical dance to entertain wanna be elitists who would want to bridge the worlds of high society and the church. These folks are doing anything they are big and bad enough to do and defend it with the notion that it had to be holy and acceptable because of the emotional response they received. I know cause I use to do the same thing. Please pray for a renewed mind and seek first the kingdom of God.

  70. Gloria Musoke says:

I remeber G Craige talking about mimiming in TTBHH 5, I had no idea that miming was actually a demonic art. I seen it done before in so many churches whilst growing up i pray the ppl of God wake up just i as i have. Christ is coming!!!!

  71. carmen says:

(John4:24) God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

  72. Bryann says:

Dumb ! Wow its amazing how we do whatever we want in church and then call it anointing ! They allow this because the people do not want the true uncompromising life changing word of God ! Miming is not ministry ! It is entertainment ! I have never seen anyone getting saved watching this foolishness ! Why don’t the Pastors just do what the Bible says to do, simple ! Forsake the world and live for Christ ! Then you will be effective for Christ !

  73. Thank you for the truth, before I made an error!

  74. Darianmk says:

Good article Min. Moffett. Pastor Craige cover alot of this in his TTBHP series. But here’s something that is very interesting that I came across a month ago while looking at one my former church facebook page to see what they’ve been up w(I left 5yrs agoafter seeing the “light” so to speak). There’s a school that teaches “Mine” here in the Dallas area to church youths. Here’s the link: http://www.yourmajisty.com
I don’t think they realize how wrong they are in teaching this poisoning

  75. Gangel says:

K&K Mime started their ministry at my church in Pittsburgh. I always enjoyed their performances, but I also categorized them as “performances”, not worship to MY God. They are still affiliated with that ministry, but when they started they were just young pre-teen twin boys, very young and impressionable. I figured that they would grow out of miming, but I was wrong and they grew their popularity grew and the ministry of mime grew which surprised me because I felt that it was gimmicky and would die out. Sad to see that this pagan worship ritual has spread to countless ministries throughout the world. Deceived, I am not. The music is what invokes the strong emotions, not the movement. I was at a church last year and their mime ministry performed to “Justified”. People were weeping and praising, but it was not until the 22 year old male lead of the mime group broke out into a shout and fell to his knees weeping that the others became emotional. However, I have seen that same song minister in other places where there was no mimes. The true worshipper will worship in spirit and in truth. They will not need an emotional high to worship God, nor will they need a song or dance. Great job on the article, but many will not receive it because of our emotional attachment to a feeling.

  76. Deborah says:

I remember as a little girl. That there was a program that showed black people portraying masters. And if they didn’t like your show they would put a rope around your neck, and we no what happened next. You were dead. I never forgot that image. So I don’t know how this can be called anointed. It might be anointed but not from the Kingdom of Light, where our Lord and Savior dwells.

    Deborah

  77. Shirlyn Henry says:

Excellent, this is so true,we want to play games with a Holy God,it is about us never want he wants from us,which is worship in spirit and truth

My pastor had the ministry to stop wearing the white faces. We had some men to come from Dallas to minister with the white/clear plastic masks. I was told it looked like there were 3 women on the altar as they danced.

My pastor called the leader of our “Mime” ministry and told her, “I don’t want to see those white faces again.” We wore the white paint, well now we have praise dancers and flags. We do interpretive dance but I no longer say that I “mime” I had no clue about the history. We have to do our homework and no just do everything we see.

Indeed it is an eye opening. The church should ALWAYS seek to minister to God in a manner He (God) desires not as we wish it tobe. Why Moses was able to offer an acceptable service to God was because he followed the pattern God gave him. God owns the church. He alone knows how best He should be worshipped. Men who worship God aright go up the mountain to receive the pattern. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to tarry there because He (God) alone determines how long you wait on the mountain. The difference between some one that waits on the mountain to receive and some one who receives his pattern from men is obvious in LIFE and MINISTRY.
No man determines how best to worship God, no matter how spiritual he seems to be, unless he receives it from above (God).
The church MUST stand to stop the flow of iniquity.
    I really appreciate this article

hmmmm… The video notes: ” this video contains content from SONY music entertainment…
If all this miming is to Gospel music, what does Sony( a Secular Music Company) OWN in this video??

Now, I know why those faces creep me out my whole life. Not that they only look creepy they also have a evil background history.

What I don’t understand is,why churches bring stuff like this into church anyway???Don’t people wonder these day’s anymore?
People go to church for entertainment, not to hear the word of God.
    Sad sad sad indeed.

Thank you for this Eye opening article.

Wow…you mentioned how you were afraid of the white faces… In 2008, a teenage boy came to perform mime at the ministry I attended. When my 4yr. old nephew saw him come out, he was frightened so much that he tried to run out of the church!! He kept crying and asking me and my sister why he had his face painted white. He was literally scared to look at the boy!!! I’ve personally seen young people do mime maybe 2 or 3 times. I never searched the background of it until an older woman asked me and my sister what it meant. I found the truth…the same truth presented here. Thanks again bro. Tetaun and EXMinistries.

        Ms. Wanda,

That little 4yr old saw the spirit behind the costume and that is where his fear originated from. Young children are very good discerners between good and evil, that is why I watch the reactions of children during certain times. I feel that expression is fine, but it does not belong in God’s sanctuary, nor does it have place in the ministry of Jesus Christ. Our people perish from lack of knowledge and wisdom, and many churches want to be all things to all people instead of belonging to the God we serve solely.

I can understand your nephew being scared. They look so dead and creepy. It makes one think of death.
