Jeremy Lin, the humble and until recently unknown basketball star has grabbed the attention of basketball fans around the country and the world, but some worry of the temptations that lay in wait for Lin as he settles in to his new fame.
Ever since “Lin-sanity” began Lin has sought the advice and guidance of his pastor, Rev. Stephen Chen of Redeemer Bible Fellowship in Mountain View, Calif., who is concerned about the temptation and sin that are present.
“It would be foolish to say that I’m not concerned with the temptations that are out there,” Rev. Stephen Chen said. “The Scripture talks about the devil lying in wait like a lion waiting to devour. All Christians would be foolish to underestimate the devil.”
Chen, 33, said that when he talks with Lin that he reminds him of the scripture. “I did remind him of the Gospel and for him to continue to set his vision upon Christ.”
Lin’s family attends Redeemer Bible Fellowship, the English ministry of the Chinese Church in Christ. Chen first met Lin when he was in eighth grade, and Lin had told Chen that one day he would grow to over six feet and play basketball, according to KQED.
“And so I asked him how are you going to do it, and he said, ”I’m going to drink milk every day, and I’m going to eat calcium pills every day, and it’s going to happen,’” Chen told KQED. “And sure enough, he’s over six feet tall and he’s playing in the NBA.”
There are also reports that state after Lin is done playing that he wants to join the ministry as well. Lin’s parents are devout Christians and being a pastor would be natural for him considering that his maternal grandfather was a Taiwanese Christian pastor, according to The New York Times.

This is great news, i’m going to make sure i lift Lin and his family up! this was refreshing to hear!!
hello family! i agree with everyones comment. they were all true and understanding. we all know that whoever professes our Lord Jesus Christ’s name, especially in public, the devil will be lurking! lets keep Lin, his family, and pastor in our prayers cuz now we see temptations are starting to come his way(kim kardashian) as one reader pointed out. wow out of all ppl y her?! thankfully he wasnt interested. and thank u Lord Jesus Christ for ur Spirit is with him!
That’s great to hear about Lin and his pastor encouraging him in his faith. This is what these pastors should be doing, instead of those like Marvin Winans and TD, just trying to get some shine and make a dollar for themselves. They fail to realize that other people’s blood is on their hands when they do this. I just hope and pray that Lin, Tebow, and others like them will stay the course, and not let the enemy distract them, because there will be many distractions and temptations thrown at them. I saw on one of those entertainment shows a few weeks ago about how they are trying to hook Lin up with Kim Kardashian, and he said he wasn’t interested, which I was SO GLAD to hear!!! I also think it is great too how there are so many Asians now that are coming to know Christ as their Lord and Savior, which is something that many here in America have still yet to do. I personally know so many Asians, including those from India, who are Christians, and it’s so refreshing to see this. Many of them feel more strongly about their faith than even some of these so-called Christians over here in America do.
Love LIN!!! Glad he got a chance, but can’t cheer for him because I can’t have Melo winning anything! lol but I’m glad to hear a Pastor garner NO FAME or oppurtunity from his parishoner…just wise counsel as a pastor should give!!
It’s good to find that there are real pastors out there who are teaching the truth to people, instead of leading them another way.
Niya I could not agree with you more. Lately God is doing a new thing..He is raising up men in Sports to boldy profess His name without shame..Glory to GOD!!!!!! Let’s keep Jeremy in prayer because the devil is already planning to wage war on him for that, Sure he already has the “world” to offer Lin to reel him in . I pray that my son who loves basketball and has the same dream like Lin, can take inspiration and be able to proclaim the name of Jesus where ever he may tread!
In one of the feircest battles of my new life, I needed to read this. God… hope is here in earth through christ in unlikely sources (NBA). reading about Lin’s love for christ stirred the embers in my heart. I want to go on even the more. Jesus the hope of Glory! continue the work Father… it is hard for this flesh…. deeds of the flesh you will die in Jesus’ name.. oh yes you will. God be glorified.
It’s a beautiful thing! Go Jesus!
awesome
Wow!!!! God is good…. We continue to pray for this brother saints.
This year is brining in some good news.
He shall soar like and eagle God will lift him up, Praise be to God
I am seeing God raise up outspoken believers in so many arenas of life these days. I know of two neurosurgeons who recently wrote books talking about the power of God to heal. They also offer to pray with their patients before surgery, in the name of Jesus Christ. So it is a blessing to hear that in the sports world God is raising up men like tebow and lin. God will build his church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against her. Go God!
Good news is so uplifting, saints defending the faith and not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This is a great story and I hope it helps someone.
That is wonderful!! God is good!!
To God be the Glory, Keep Christ “ultimate” in your life and you can’t fail. Praise the Lord for “Godly and Wise Biblical counsel”. Keep praying for him folks.
I’m not into sports at all but I am now (basketball) because Jeremy Lin publicly confesses to the world that Jesus Christ is His Lord and Savior! May the Lord cover him and his family and continue, increasingly be focused on Jesus and live out His Word. Viia le Atua! Praise the Lord!
LIN is a worshipper, that’s why he couldn’t hold his praise and honor to the Lord in. It is good to see someone who actually has a relationship with the Lord and knows where to go to receive wise counsel. I am an old school Laker fan back when Magic, Kareem, Cooper, McADoo, Nixon, and Clay were doing there thing;. I AM GLAD SOME IS SMASHING ON KOBE’S REIGN. It is time for PRIDE to take a bow to the K of K’s & L of L’s. The whole industry needed to be humbled
Very happy to hear that lin is a devout Christian.I am praying for him as he continues to consider Christ and what he should do.God Bless him in his endeavor to please God and not man.
good news abounds
Glory to God!! Lets keep him and that ministry lifted in prayer.
Great news, indeed. We need more pastors like him.
To God be the Glory, God bless and him and keep him in his perfect will in Jesus name
That is awesome to hear. Praise the Lord
Sounds like he has been blessed with a great pastor. A pastor who isn’t so excited about those large tithe/offering checks that he waters down the message of truth. God bless and keep you Jeremy Lin and EX ministries.
awesome, what an encouraging encouraging post. Thank you for sharing this. watched tbbhh#5 last nite again. Really helped after lamenting about the former posts a few days ago.
My prayers are with you Jeremy! Be blessed.
great news this is very refreshing to read. We will keep Jeremy in our prayers
To see J – Lin playing in the NBA being saved and not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus tell me alot about his faith and charcter. I know this move has been designed by God for J-Lin to be an impact on youth across the world. He has a peace about him that no other Knick player has. Which is the sprit of God in him. We must pray that God keeps him sheilded from the devils plans. Now that people know that he is saved. The media is waiting for him to make one small mistake to hang him on cross. This is great news EX family, but lets remember that he is in a place were all eyes is on him being saved, adding being vocal about his salvation. I will tell you this, It is good to see this young man playing in the NBA. He brings a passion to the game that was lost for a while in the NBA. That passion is Jesus! There was a few players that claimed that they was saved, but there action did not follow ther lives. If you watch the NBA you all now what I am talking about.
I pray that God bless him and keep him safe from injury!
I pray that he countinues to lift the name of the Lord in every victory and loss!
I pray most of all that God uses him to bring those lost NBA players to Christ!
Lord bless all the EX Staff and family. In JESUS NAME, AMEN!
Awesome! Not every pro star is living in Sin to fullest! I pray he can continue to stand strong and be a witness to his teammates who need Christ desperately!
Great article! Thank God he has a pastor who’s teaching him sound doctrine, and not compromising.
You go Jeremy!!! I’ll support your efforts and be a “fan” as long as you follow Jesus. Stay true to your beliefs and get up as many times as “the industry” tries to put you and your beliefs down. Those of the gnosis will do everything in their power to quench your fire for God by setting you up for a fall since the media has been drawn to you. Be prayed up and read up so God can keep you wised up to overcome. Keep on keepin on Jeremy…God bless you and your family!!!
That’s like the opposite of what a lot of pastors seem to be saying in this “get yours while the gettin is good” era. Praise God for some true believing, Word of God relying, men of God.
Awesome!!!!! Great to see and to be part apart of the company of believers that the Lord is raising up to set the standard of what the KINGDOM of GOD looks like!!
