Osteen: Romney is a Christian
(CNN) – Famed pastor Joel Osteen reiterated his position that Mitt Romney is a Christian on Tuesday, saying as long as the likely GOP presidential nominee believes that Jesus is the Son of God then he subscribes to the Christian faith.
“When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God–that he’s the Christ, raised from the dead, that he’s his Savior–that’s good enough for me,” Osteen said in an interview to air on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”
While Osteen described the Mormon faith as “not traditional Christianity,” he said he believes Mormons fall under the Christian tent.
“Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ,” the pastor argued.
Romney’s faith has largely remained an outlier in this presidential cycle, though some have expressed skepticism at the likely Republican nominee’s religious views.
A leading Baptist pastor in Dallas, for example, made headlines in October when he urged Republicans to vote against Romney, saying voters should elect what he called a Christian, not a Mormon. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints identify themselves as Christians.
More recently, some students at the evangelical Liberty University have taken issue with Romney being tapped to deliver the school’s commencement address in May.
Recent polls, however, show a majority of Americans are open to having a Mormon as president.
Romney is not the only one who has taken heat over his faith. Polls have shown a small minority of Americans have questioned whether President Barack Obama is a Christian.
Countering the speculation, Osteen said Tuesday he has spent time with the president and has no doubt about his faith.
“I believe with all my heart that he’s a Christian, as he says he is,” Osteen said.

I am surprised to here Joel Osteen Representing Mitt Romney who is indeed not for the poor, not for. A many of civil rights issues,Medicare, wanting higher taxes, and being behind people who support the tea party. I had been a member for a while at Joel Osteen Church and I will now be looking for a new church. He has many minorities at his church and his top singers are black mostly. Moving on to higher ground. Anybody can say there a Christian but you must also follow in Christ Jesus he represented all people. Especially the poor and sick.

The other day I was watching the 1968 movie of “Pollyanna” and enjoyed the preacher and his style of ministering. You don’t hear it anymore and you have to admit that we are seeing the scripture come alive before us and that is, ‘they will heed to themselves teachers for their itching ears to tell them what they want to hear~ and also, they won’t endure sound doctrine~People in the movie said, Sundays gave everybody sour stomach but I rejoiced in his loud voice declaring the truth. I miss the days when they use to preach and our flesh didn’t liKe it but the spirit rejoiced in the truth and welcomed it!

Joel is either ignorant of Mormon theology or ignorant about what it really means to be a christian, which means HE isn’t a christian. Kind of spookey when you think that thousands call this man “pastor” & watch his program every week.
No doubt he thinks he’s being loving & respectful to others but it’s really not about love or respect. It’s about speaking the truth. Jesus said you shall know the truth & the truth will make you free, John 8:32. Better to speak the truth & be called unloving than to tell a lie in the name of love.
Actually, Joel Osteen & the like are full of love….for themselves. They love the praises of men. They love the accolades, their position. They love being known for their progressiveness & forward thinking. They love being the ones that Fox News & CNN calls when the media wants to know what’s up in the church. They like being the face of the church, the go to guys. The pay isn’t to shabby, either. They’re in it for the fame & fortune. That’s what they love. They’ll sacrifice truth for the dollar. But about the people who follow them? Sure, there are those who follow because the message Joel preaches is easy but I’m also sure many follow him because they really do believe that what this man says is the gospel. They think he’s leading them to Christ & heaven. When it turns out to be the other way around, what will he say to them? How will he explain why he didn’t preach the gospel? How will he justify himself then? Yes, God have mercy!

Another 4 years of No.44 scares me. I did not vote for president in 08, I left it blank and I think that by doing that, is how we ended up with obama. The next set of questions in the interview of Joel should center on whether he is a “follower of Jesus”. Mormons are Christians? Absurd! They do not even reverence the Bible OVER their Book of Mormons (written work NOT inspired by God). Moreover, within the movement they still allow for multiple spouse marriages. As for President Obama being a believer and follower of Christ, that is absolutely ridiculous. He has signed his name to all kinds of documents allowing those plagued with the sin of homesexuality to have rights and priviledges. In addition, he is for abortion. Clearly, he is NOT connected to Jesus and certainlty does not follow His commands.
It was convenient for Obama to use Christianity for political purposes especially in the African American Church. Sadly, many people were deceived by this ploy and voted for him at the poles. I hope and pray that he is REMOVED from his postion as president and someone else is elected. He and Joel have the same problem: MAN-PLEASERS! Both want the “approval of the people” and they will do and say anything to achieve that goal.
I believe Joel knows the “accuracy” of scripture but CHOOSES not to stand firm because of his insatiable desire to be liked by people. God will hold him accountable for his nonsense preaching and teaching as well as promoting evil. My prayer is that God will continue to expose him and close down the ministry he leads because souls are at stake.

I used to listen to him thinking he was a really positive guy, almost like a motivational speaker, but I quit listening to him and lost respect for him when he said, on national t.v. that he would attend the weddding of a gay or lesbian couple if he respected them.

No, True Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of the only True and Living God Almighty and Jesus will come back for his church to live with him for all eternity.. It’s sickening, I used to look at his tv show sometimes, but I felt like it was just too sweet and I knew Christian life was not like that lol… Being a Chrisitian you are in a fight/battle/war and nice words and jokes will not sustain you.. This motivational speaker can say anything and still have a church full of people flowing in and attending there.. I guess they enjoy the happy words to tickle their ears! This is not a surprise to me that he would take such a broad view on Christianity. He is one of the biggest preachers of inclusion-ism I’ve ever known about. I used to listen to him, I used to think, “He’s a positive preacher. He’s like a motivational speaker.” However, I lost respect for him when he said he would attend a gay or lesbian wedding if he respected the couple.

The word Christian is used so loosely ! God never called His people , Christians ! Jesus Christ refers to His TRUE followers as disciples ! One that is disciplined to follow Christ and His word . So all these people calling themselves Christians , still does not make them a follower of Christ ! Remember Matt 7:22 Many will say to me that day, Lord,Lord have we not prophesied in your name ? And in your name have cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works ? 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU , depart from me you worker of lawlessness .Only he that does the will of our Heavenly Father will have eternal life . A disciple of Christ believes and keeps Gods word ! Doing good works and attending someones Church doesn’t make anyone a follower of Christ ! I go to Liberty University and I can tell you a lot of us here are beyond outraged at this decision to have Romney speak at our commencement. It has really brought division here when you would expect us to be in one accord against such a decision. I personally had to debate a guy who did not find anything wrong with my school’s decision and the unbiblical things he said are too disturbing for me to repeat. Please keep my school in prayer because lately it’s becoming harder to identify what makes us a Christian university as opposed to secular. Please pray for our leadership. I believe we are under some serious satanic attack. The sad thing is people here don’t see it that way. Some think such things only happened during the biblical days. It’s very sad. What I saw and fell in love with when I first got here is sadly not what I am seeing these days. Please pray for the remnant here who are standing their ground for Christ and refuse to allow our school which was dedicated to Christ to be handed over to the devil. Thank you EX Ministries for always delivering the truth. Your ministry has really helped deliver me from a lot of things and now I am fully alert and not ignorant of the enemy’s devices.

I agree with Oneika, as should we really be surprised by anything this man does any more (if you think this is something, check out the fact that TBN is now ‘broadcasting on Catholic Networks’, can’t explain it folks but something really doesn’t feel right about this either.)?
Osteen has said time and again, “he’s a Christian Motivational Speaker”, PLEASE find that description for me anywhere in the Bible?? The spirit of deception is rising with every fever pitch, and according to the Bible it won’t get any better from here on out (itching ears syndrome, 2 Timothy 4:3).
Joel, Oprah, Pearson, etc. could care less what you, me, God, or anyone else has to say and that’s the truth. Go over their videos and see how many times the word “I” is used, rather than “thus saith the Lord God, or the Bible says this or that”?
Galatians 1:8 tells us loud and clear what’s going on hear, but MANY it seems who follow Osteen and the others could care less, as long as it sounds ‘good’ to them (why hear the truth which should cause you to turn from your wicked ways, when a lie makes you feel better?). Can you imagine the ‘judgment’ that will befall those who knew better, but still decided it wasn’t worth it??
I’ll continue to pray for Osteen and the others, in the hope they’ll turn from their ways, and to God/Jesus instead before it’s too late.

Joel seems to place appeasing/pleasing people above telling them the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth from the full counsel of God’s written Word. How sad when any Christian would aid and abet someones deception for the sake of being nice. If he really loved the Lord and the Lord’s sheep he would tell them the truth, in love, regardless of whether or not it hurt their feelings, disagreed with their false teachings or otherwise caused offense. This is just extremely dumb to me. I don’t think I ever agree with any of Joel’s statements…he is very suspect and I believe he is into inclusion. He is always combining stuff and making excuses for stuff and never really defending the Bible and what it says! Does he read it? Does he really know what the Bible says? He said one time on tv that people of all faiths go to his church, Joel that is not good–people of all faiths? What does that mean!!! Joel Osteen really have showed his hand on this one. It’s a very sad state of affairs when everyone is considered christian even if their beliefs don’t line up to scripture. Mormonism have always been viewed by the Christian community as a cult. Now all of a sudden it’s no longer viewed that way. I wonder what changed?

I do not think it is proper to put Christians and Mormons in the same category. Nor do I think it is proper to put Catholic’s and Christians in the same category. We have a lot of Mormons here in Montana, something I did not see a lot of in the south. They are not christians but are more willing to help people out than most church people I knew down south. I do not agree with them but I know quite a few from work. I do speak with them but I feel like they are pretty close to being a UFO cult. When the great deception begins they will be deceived because they know Mormon, not Jesus.

Sure he’s a Christian if you can believe that God is an alien, the Archangel Michael became Adam, Jesus and Satan are brothers, and men can become angels, or gods and still be a Christian. But the bible says that a Christian is a disciple of Jesus. If you don’t follow Jesus’ teachings you are not a Christian. But for some of these “teachers”, they have to loosen God’s standards, so they can “get into heaven” so in their loosening of standards, others such as Mormons get allowed in. It’s a ‘big tent’ mentality that anyone who says they believe in Jesus gets in. Well demons believe, and shudder.
