Half of All Americans Support Gay Marriage; Protestants Most Resistant
A new Gallup poll on the attitudes of Americans toward same-sex marriage has revealed that around 50 percent of all respondents agree with its legalization. The poll reveals, however, that among religious Americans, Protestants in general are opposed to legalizing same-sex marriage.
A chart by Gallup showed that those on board with homosexual marriage have been increasing in number throughout the past few decades, and in the past two years their numbers have reached 50 percent or more. This year’s survey results are slightly lower than 2011′s in which 53 percent of all Americans were favorable to gay marriage.
The results come only a few days after Vice President Joe Biden expressed on “Meet the Press” that he is “absolutely comfortable” with the idea that same-sex couples and heterosexual couples are “entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties,” although President Barack Obama has yet to express the same sentiments.
As expected, conservative Republicans back the traditional definition of marriage to a greater extent than Democrats, although Independents also showed a majority approval of same-sex marriage, with 57 percent saying that it should be legal.
Along religious lines, 88 percent of those who said they have no religious identity agreed that gay marriage should be legal. Catholics were largely split on the issue, with a 51 percent approval rate, while Protestants generally insisted that it should not be legal, with only 38 percent supporting it.
Furthermore, those who attended religious services on a weekly basis were more prompted to stand behind the traditional definition of marriage, with only 31 percent of those attending weekly agreeing that gay marriage should be legal.
“This year’s results underscore just how divided the nation is on this issue. As a result, President Obama’s campaign strategy team obviously is continuing to grapple with how to handle it — with the vice president on the one hand essentially endorsing legalized gay marriage, while the administration on the other hand stops just short of the same pronouncement,” according to the report by Gallup.
The report noted that although Obama officially remains opposed to legalizing gay marriage, it is possible his position will change in the upcoming election in order to rally more pro-gay Democrats behind him.

i think its very dangerous to stand and say that we do not believe that more than 50% americans support homosexuality…first of all,its true,only God has the real stats.secondly,even if it were true,its not surprising.brethren the Word of God already told us that many will follow the wide path (matthew 7:13-14) and also that the world is under the wicked one (1 john 5:19)….im not trying to condemn anyone here…but brethren,we have to be very very very careful, we might indirectly approve evil in the process,as one of the brethrens already said up there (romans 1:32)…..

I was in the living room with my friends and we all are lesbians. When it was anounced that Obama agree that gays should get married I felt convicted , I felt like it’s getting closer and closer and time is running out for me to choose. Me and my friends debated with the issue. I said what is going to happen when gays want to marry in churches that don’t accept their way of life. I said that these Christian people might end up going to jail for denying the rights of the lgbt community in which I don’t agree that anyone should go to jail for their belief. Now im up 6:00am and God has layed it on my heart to research this deeply in the bible and understand what marriage represents in the first place. The bible do say that the kingdom of Heaven is like a Marriage that the King prepare for his Son. Then im reading about how God destroyed the earth the first time because of the pollution of marriage and the continued evil. I know for a fact that I just don’t want to be on the wrong side of that crack

I am so glad that it was the Holy Spirit who brought conviction and revealed this into your heart. A few years ago, I was given a terrible dream of people screaming and burning in fire in the background while people in front of me were laughing and carrying on about their lives, not aware that this maybe their final fate. At the end of the other part of this same dream, I was awaken by the Lord’s voice saying, “It will be like the days of Noah”. You already know the Way to get back to the Father. Well, I live in NC and the majority who voted in yesterday’s primary took a stand AGAINST gay marriage. The marriage amendment that Mrs. Brown mentioned above, passed…..meaning that it will be more difficult for gay marriage to become legal in our great state in the future. I posted a comment on another page, praising my state for taking a stand in the matter…..I was called “old, bigoted and hateful” (I am none of the above) and I thought it was funny. At least where I live for now, things will stay like they are…..and that’s a good thing.

I agree vlmiller. I live in NC too and you should see some of the comments on Facebook towards those who voted for the amemdment, calling them everything but a child of God. And I mean some of these comments were even from people who proclaim to be Christian!! It’s a trip!!

This nation is becoming more and more perversed like Sodom and Gomorrah and, just like them, this nation too shall be destroyed. The church is comforming to this world when we are strickly told not to in Romans 12:2, therefore, the Spirit of God is leaving those churches and in turn, they are weakening. They no longer have the power to heal, save, and set free.
People of God, we must wake up! This is the plan of the enemy! He knows that once the Spirit of God leaves us, we are powerless before him and we are defeated. We cannot allow the devil to continue this agenda. We must study the Word of God and “hear what the Spirit is saying to the church”.
The end time is nearing, and we cannot be caught asleep!

I so agree t2c. And I really don’t think that as many Americans agree with same sex marriage as these stupid polls would lead you to believe. Think about it, if 30 states currently have gay marriage bans, and only 9 or 10 states have legalized it, then how can almost 50% of Americans be for gay marriage; it makes no sense!! In most states, such as mine here in NC, the citizens voted against gay marriage, so that shows you right there that most Americans are not for it. The media will try to spin things anyway they want and will use these silly polls to do it. I know that I am so glad that NC voted the way that we did, and it’s seems really interesting that since our election, Obama now comes out with the way that he has been feeling all the time. Did he really think that NC was going to vote for same sex marriage, I mean really, regardless of how many times he comes down here visiting our state, people know what’s right and wrong, regardless of what our spineless, no-backbone, soul-selling president says. I just pray now that God will have mercy on country because we definitely need it!!!!!!!

I personally do not believe that about half of Americans favor gay marriage. That’s partially evident in last night’s vote to amend the constitution in NC (Praise the Lord!!!!). The homosexual controlled media propaganda will stop at nothing to force a deviant lifestyle on America. I thank the Lord for the ones still willing to stand for truth and holiness!

I know homosexuality is becoming more accepted and tolerated even amongst so called believers. I read an article in the newspaper the other morning that the Methodist big wigs voted 60% to 40% to keep their stance on homosexuality that it is wrong and goes against the bible in the official rule book of the methodist church at their convention. That is an alarming rate that means 40% voted to go against the word of God. The sad thing is that 4 years from now when it comes up for a vote again, they may just change their stance.

@Eb, Then I suggest you review it right away then and get some conviction in you! In the meantime, and most importantly, do you ever read your Bible? Check out the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and you will see why this was wrong to endorse this perverse lifestyle. God hates the very act of homsexuality. With that said, this is definetely the beginning of the end. Soon, the children are going to accept this as normal. Parents really need to teach them the right way before their minds are corrupted.
