The Leaven of Herod

Mark 8:14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. Mark 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. Mark 8:16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. Mark 8:17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? Mark 8:19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. Mark 8:20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. Mark 8:21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
Leaven – influence that modifies something or transforms it
Herod was influential in politics and religion. And from Jesus birth til death, he sought to kill Jesus and stop his ministry. Politics will always try to stop Christ’s teachings because Christ taught humility, but politics require self promotion and exaltation. Luke 13:31 The same day there cam e certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod wi” ki ” thee. And he said unto them, Go ye, and te” that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I sha ” be perfected. • A little leaven, e ffects the entire loaf and changes it’s appearance, texture, and consistency. This is what politics from the pulpit always does. It changes preachers, churches, and the members. Gal. 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
We have gone against the warnings of Jesus Christ himself because we have adopted the idea that our salvation must come from a political leader. But we have forgotten that our salvation was already granted to us by the true king of kings! Psa. 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not a” his benefits: Who forgiveth a” thine iniquities; who healeth a ” thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life #om destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
America the not so beautiful. • Though the disciples forgot to take bread with them, Jesus reminded them that He is their supply. When they lacked, they immediately took the spiritual sayings of Jesus naturally. They made a spiritual thing a carnal thing. This is where we as a people are now. Because of lack, we desire to mixing the carnal with the spiritual. • We are looking to a pagan government, with antichrist political leadership for things that can only come from God. Our salvation, sustenance and supply can only come from above. We are in the world, but not of the world. But we have been convinced over time that America is our “land” and salvation will come through the leader of it. 2Chr. 7:14 If my people, which are ca”ed by my name, sha” humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn #om their wicked ways; the n wi” I hear #om heaven, and wi” forgive their sin, and wi ” heal their land. • America is a wicked country and is not the israel of God. The people that believe upon the ENTIRE word of God and live for him are the true Jews whos Kingdom is not of this world. Jesus spoke directly to Pilate, the political leader, and told him that his Kingdom is not of this world so doesn’t need his influence. John 18:36 Jesus said in answer, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom was of this world, my disciples would have made a good fight to keep me out of the hands of the Jews: but my kingdom is not here.
Woe unto the mergers
• “Dominion Theology, “Kingdom Now Theology,” “Restoration Theology” all teach that we should be in and of this world by voting in a political party that will change the laws and rules to reflect our Christian beliefs. But this is the opposite of what Jesus taught. Rom. 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, wi ” of God.
• The Kingdom of God is a countercultural movement that exists on earth but is not of earth. We are here to win souls, not lands. We are here to be living walking breathing examples of Jesus’ teachings, not mixers of politics and religion.
• God’s true prophets NEVER preach politics, but rather influence men to change their policies. But now, preachers are encouraging voting for this party or that party as if the right man in o ffice will change things to better suit the believer. NOT. Psa. 12:8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
• Freemasons built this country upon antichrist policy and with a pagan god resolution in mind. This country is on it’s way to hell and there is no redemption for the land. The redemption is for the individuals that accept Jesus Christ as their savior and choses his way rather than their own.
• We should be looking for the Kingdom that will come from above rather than trying to Christianize a pagan system so that is can be our home. This world is not our home and we will never make it comfortable. Heb. 13:14 For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come.
Summary – Paul stated that if our hope is in this life, we are most miserable. Our hope should be in Jesus Christ and him alone! He is our bread for today and hope for tomorrow. We are people of a different Kingdom whose rules the world cannot understand and whose establishment waits a returning king. It’s Herod’s leaven that political parties are made of and we as believers cannot be identified with them. Though they may seem conservative, there is always compromise mixed in somewhere and a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. When we vote for men that compromise, we compromise and belong to their movement. This doesn’t mean that we ignore politics, but our politics should adhere to Christ policies. We should do our best, be as good as we can as citizens of this land but never lose our identity as believers from another world. In secular politics the rules are 1. Get in Power, 2. Stay in Power, and 3. Increase your power. In a system made up of selfish ambition, the will of God can never be carried out. Pastors, preachers, ministers, etc. should avoid standing with political figures because of this. We should pray for them, but never get in bed with them. We should stand for what we believe, but never try to influence others to put their hope in ambitious men. But because the church has mirrored the world by electing mediators to speak to God for them, we see no harm in casting our hope in secular politicians. But now, that the carnal church leaders have been betrayed by Obama, maybe they will see that OUR true government rests on the shoulders of our true leader, Jesus Christ. Is. 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government sha ” be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Is. 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace ther e shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of th e LORD of hosts wi” perform this.

For a more in depth study into the subject that Pastor Lewis has chosen, I’d recommend the book “Blood Guilt” (New Covenant Press, 2011) ( See http://covenant.nu ). Chapter 18 is appropriately titled, “The Leaven of Herod,” and provides many more details regarding Herod the Great and his sons, and their patrons, the Romans (see pages 257 – 290). The author makes this observation about the Herodian family:

The outward show of religion, along with a combination of bribes and violence, the exchange of favors with secular political leaders, and manipulating the religious leaders of the people, were all used by the Herods to maintain their dynasty for more than a century. Though they could have served as the heads of the Hebrew religious republic, the Herods instead became like all the other client-kings of Rome: worldly, violent and corrupt. For the most part, they became mirror images of their patrons — Rome's leaders and politicians — espousing Roman values, including the pursuit of power at any cost and the disregard for life. Such was the substance of Herod's leaven. In the context of the late Second Temple period, Jesus' warning to his disciples against the "leaven of Herod" must have been a reference to that one thing that was most responsible for Herod and his family's rise to power: the alliance between temporal and spiritual.

I am so glad to know that my family and i have brothers and sisters in the lord that have their spiritual eyes open to see the deceptions of the enemy through this perverse voting sceme. I thought in the past that arguing my point to ppl would open their eyes to see what god has shown us but now i realize that this battle we face is truly spiritual. God will allow ppl to fall into a great delusion and usher in the antichrist thinking that he is god, (a politian mind you, please look up info on project bluebeam.) I don’t mean to sound clicheic but we have to war in the heavenlies for the opening of eyes b/c they can’t hear or see unless god’s spirit removes the scales. God bless you pastor Lewis and Ex Ministries for your HARD CORE stance on the “issues” that most black ministries refuse to challenge people on. As for the photo of #44 and his group of so-called “men of gaud” praying for him; the scripture clearly states lay hands on no man suddenly and this is the reality of the church- the blind(#44), leading the blind (preachers with no vision) THEY WILL ALL FALL INTO THE DITCH except they repent. How can anyone being a true man or woman of God “touch and agree” with a leader who is trying to redefine marriage? How can you say, “Homosexuality I just leave that up to God” as stated by Mr. Jakes, Mr. Olsteen, Mr. O.L Roberts, and the pastor of Broke Back Mountain. Too many have not stood for nothing and have fallen for everything. We are on the wall with you Pastor Lewis and my encouragement to you is DON’T COME DOWN of the wall. One thing some Americans who are very patriotic fail to realize is that the government that we elected into power are all hypocrites! They preach freedom, and democracy in very eloquent speeches. Yet, we do not live in a democratic government, neither do we (The people) have control over the governement. All of our political leaders take money from special interest groups, and our elected officials carry out their agendas. In this country, as well as others, money is POWER not The People. When a president can be elected into office and lose the popular vote, that means that the voice of the majority was not heard.
If The People try to rise up and assemble to change things the government, that We elected, uses military members, federal law enforcement, and local law enforcement, that We pay for, to shut Us down under the umbrella of keeping the peace and preventing civil unrest.
Look at the way our government treats our soldiers. They shoot them up with all kinds of God knows what, and if they refuse they threaten them with less than honorable discharges. I was in the military so I know for a fact that this is 100% true. Our government has purposely racked up a debt that we will never be able to pay back. I can go on and on.
Therefore it’s obvious that this country is NOT of Christ to anyone who has there eyes open, and not fooled by the special interest controlled media. God never meant for man to rule over man because man is evil and his evilness is amplified when you give man power.

What a powerful message! I am reminded of Daniel, who was taken into the Babylonian system, but remained faithful to His God. Persecution came for him and his friends but they refused to be part of the pagan system. Because of that, God could trust him with even deeper revelation and authority, because he was not moved by the systems of that nation. We need to be like Daniel. There are no golden images to bow to, or lion’s dens, but the Babylonian system still exists. We are in the midst of a world that blatantly resists Christ and Christianity. This is not time to try to get on their good side, this is the time to pray. Our eyes are shut because we have chosen to be complacent, and are now looking for a better leader, as Pastor has rightfully said. We cannot look to a nice government here on earth anymore, but for the government of God. Leadership is becoming more and more wicked, and we need to fight this in the spirit. Secular leaders are pushing the envelope, homosexuality, abortion, there’s talk of after-birth abortion (where a newborn baby can be killed!!!). The world is becoming more wicked. We need to stop cosying up to politicians, because being close to them won’t change a thing. We need to do our work as children of God! Thank you Pastor!
My question then is, how do we educate the next generation? How do we reach out to those in public schools, those who have “two daddies” and “two mommies”? How do we protect our own children?

Be encouraged my brother in Christ. This walk is a hard walk, and there are times when we feel as though we are the only one fighting against the deception. But God always has His remnant of people. There are others in your church going through the same issue as you. He’s with you and that’s all you need to remember. Let God be true and every man a liar. Your message is a blessing!! I am currently reading “The Audacity of Deceit” by Brad O’Leary. This was written in 2008 before Obama was elected. What he had documented is mind-boggling and is currently coming to pass. In fact, he was on target with Obama’s homosexual stance. It is unfortunate that many of our folk in the Black Church continue to put skin color above God’s Word, and will not wake up and smell the coffee. I did not vote for him because of his pro-abortion, pro-homosexual stance, and I was practically an outcast in my church. I eventually left that church. I am castigated in my home because my folks are die-hard Democrats, regardless of truth. I find it interesting that everything is in crisis mode with him, and he seems to be daily on the airwaves. He has a charismatic personality and can be appealing, which makes him especially dangerous to out constitutional health. I pray that everyone, regardless of color of skin, will wake up and more closely scrutinize what is being said. If we are followers of Jesus, we must not allow ourselves to be swayed by the rhetoric of the President. Pray for him yes, we are commanded to pray for all those in authority over us, however, we must determine to see things through God’s eyes — His Word — even if we don’t always understand. Remember, it is God that we will stand before in judgment, not a man! Keep up the good work. I will continue to share your message and pray for you, your family and ministry.

I had voted for him but shortly after he won I watched “Obama Deception” and “Fall of the Republic” which do the same as far as documenting the agendas we was going to push and people backing him and I immediately realized my mistake and spoke out that is not the man he portrays himself to be. In 1998, a small Chicago theater company staged a play “The Love Song of Saul Alinsky”, whose methods Obama had practiced and taught on Chicago’s South Side.Obama was not only in the audience, but also took the stage after one performance, participating in a panel discussion that was advertised in the poster for the play.
This is why we must follow Christ. Following man will have us following Satan, I love and praise God for EXM, for they are always doing a through examination of people and testing them against the Word!!

Powerful message! Thank God for pastor Lewis, and others who stand for the truth of the Word no matter what! The bottom line is, if we lift up and defend politicians and so called famous folks more than we stand up for Jesus Christ, than we don’t have faith in God! We are to stand up for Jesus Christ no matter what! I’m a truck driver. I had an accident with my truck last thursday, which resulted in my truck being turned over on its side! By the grace of God, I was able to walk away alive and with no injuries! Only being covered by the blood of Jesus Christ can do that! There is no way I’m voting for obama because he’s supporting an antichrist agenda! And I won’t be voting for romney because he’s a mormon, and that’s a doctrine of devils! I’m sticking with Jesus! The Leaven of Herod like all the teachings of Pastor G. Craige have most Christians asking, “Why doth thou waketh me out of my dreamworld? Knowest thou not that I want to remain asleep!”
This teaching along with the Ex Cast with Pastor Dwight McKissick have definitely been eye openers for me; we were taught in our church that if we did not vote we were cosigning on whatever both parties had to offer and of course always being reminded of the blood that was shed to give us the right to vote…….isn’t it something how adamant we can get about the blood shed for certain causes but the Blood that Jesus shed is taken so lightly!
The Leaven of Herod is an awesome teaching and I have to admit that I voted for No. 44 mainly because of the color of his skin and because he said he was a Christian (I guess ignorance can be bliss when you “choose” not to know the truth)……..thank God Almighty for G. Craige Lewis!

Thank you G. Craig for addressing this. I just listend to the message and I am almost in tears of joy to hear the truth. I have been in heated discussions on FB and via email with people who call themselves Christians but still after Obama said what he said are still defending him. They keep saying yea he’s for gay marriage but he is creating jobs or he has to say that to get vote’s he’s not really for gay marriage. This is sad! It is so sad to see people who are supposed to be Christian and yet they are sleep and they support anti-Christ agenda’s.

I was the one sitting in church repeating what I read here, telling them to google it, advising them to visit the site, and being preached on! When Pastor preached “This country was messed up before he got in the seat’, or ” This man needs a lot of prayer not judging and negetivity”, or The Lord annointed him for this position” SMH….. now it’s “How can two walk together less they are in agreement” God thank you for opening pastor’s eyes… maybe now GOOGLE can take place! Quick Question…. How is it that God allows Pastor Lewis to see all of this and so very few are not even open to the idea that this man and many church leaders are not of God. My pastor receives ttbh, yet this other stuff aggravates or vexes their spirit? There is one spirit, why agree with one thing and not all? I’m just asking…

This post should be overwhelmed with comments of Hallelujahs. However, it won’t be because G. Craige Lewis has rolled over alot of toes!!!!!!! The leaven of Herod was fantastic. That message has upset black folks to the core! I’ve seen a comment where someone believed Obama was gonna help them with their healthcare and other economic issues, and disregarded his position on civil unions and abortion. In other words, they had selective hearing. Well, if you should lose your job, call Obama and see if he can find you another one. After all, you put your trust in him and NOT the Lord. SMH

Awesome, awesome, awesome message! As I talk with people about this subject I find that we in the so-called black church are split right down the middle. It is amazing how some of us are making excuses for this president. I wanted so much to be able to back this man. I wanted so much to like him (you have to admit…he is such a “nice” guy). Well, he may be a “nice” guy with a nice smile but it is not enough for Christian people to endorse him. This message has given me something extra to add to my conversations when talking with people (and when I say people, I’m talking about black Christians) who refuse to admit what we are all seeing in front of our eyes. I thank God for the black Christian pastors like G. Craig Lewis who are speaking the truth and who will not back down. You are imparting to us and we in turn are able to impart to others whether they take heed or not. Blessings!

@Demetria, There are many wondering why the black church is voting for Obama as he obviously goes against many Biblical principals. We are becoming the laughingstock of the world. It makes my heart glad to see there are others who aren’t afraid to stand up for the truth. I love this message! It makes even more sense to me why the Lord did not want me to work for the State dept. Before I was saved, I took the State Dept. exam and one of the questions were: Are you willing to go against
your beliefs while making a decision in the line of Diplomatic duty? I answered no, and needless to say I didn’t pass. Even though I was dissapointed at first , I’m not anymore because I realize this was not in the Lord’s plan and am thankful it isn’t, considering how wicked this nation has become. I could never imagine going against God for anything in this world!

A great shaking is coming to the church, and everything that isn’t on the firm foundation of Christ will be brought down. We must get back to the old path and walk there in and find rest for our souls. The church can no longer be like the people in Jeremiah’s day who said “We will not walk there in” . Forget about these lying corrupt politicians who are trying to change the truth of God’s moral laws. There judgment will be severe. They’re already condemned because they don’t believe in God or His truth. If these Bishops and Pastors don’t repent and get before the thrown of God and ask for mercy, they too will be condemned. As for me and my house we will only serve the Lord Jesus Christ!!! Be blessed.

I go to a church that heavy in right wing politics. I dread going to church during election season. Last time, they pounded in our heads why we must vote for McCain. :Sigh:
I thank the Lord that this article was written. I have seen the body of Christ divided over politics. People need to learn how to separate the Cross and the flag. There are no lesser of two evils. One day, we will be left to vote for either Hitler or RuPaul. Believe or not, you will see Christians actually scrambling to either side.
I vote for Christ, and I will follow HIM only!

I am so glad you posted this message on extimes. It was absolutely wonderful! Nothing but the truth! I have read plenty of comments (or shall I say excuses) from some of these readers concerning Obama. Putting their race over their supposed relationship with Christ. How can we call ourselves believers and vote for someone who is totally against the morals of God. (or be a part of the political realm, and try to mix it with the Word) It just can’t happen! The nerve of some readers telling folk they must choose between the lesser of the two evils, or it’s our Christian duty to vote. Then their are those who want to pray for Obama’s salvation, but I never heard one prayer go out for any other president! Check your hearts saints…..there is prejudice and respect of persons going on. G. Craige, you may not get a lot of amens on that message, but rest assure you have a LOUD AMEN from me! Keep doing what God has you doing exministries, I taught on this before Obama was elected and people still felt I was going to far and even the pastor said some things to me and I was like “what in the world”. The Lord spoke to me and said “show my people how they have turned against me” days before I ministered which was when Obama was elected. There r more for u then against you (exministries). Keep sounding the alarm and shake the nations with what God has called u to do, and by the Spirit of God shake the church to wake up! A-men
