By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News
An Applebee’s waitress who posted a receipt with a note from a pastor complaining about the automatic gratuity added to the bill on the Internet was fired on Wednesday after the pastor complained to her manager.
Chelsea Welch, the waitress, wrote in an email to Yahoo News that the pastor (who has since been identified as Alois Bell) told Welch’s manager at the St. Louis-area Applebee’s that the ensuing firestorm had “ruined” her reputation.
“I give God 10%,” Bell wrote on the receipt, scratching out the automatic tip and scribbling in an emphatic “0″ where the additional tip would be. “Why do you get 18?” (There were more than eight people in Bell’s party, triggering the auto-tip.)
Welch, who snapped a photo of the bill from a fellow server and uploaded to Reddit, defended her right to post the receipt. “I thought the note was insulting, but also comical,” she told Consumerist.com. “And I thought other users would find it entertaining.”
Bell, a pastor at Truth in the World Deliverance Ministries Church, was not amused, and she called Welch’s manager to complain.
“[It was] a lapse in my character and judgment,” Bell told the Smoking Gun, adding she did not expect her easily recognizable signature would be, as her friend informed her, “all over Yahoo. You went viral!”
“My heart is really broken,” Bell added. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.”
A spokesman for Applebee’s said it apologized to Bell for violating her “right to privacy” and confirmed that Welch “is no longer employed by the franchise.”
Welch was surprised that Applebee’s fired her, “especially because there was nothing specific in the employee handbook admonishing this behavior.”
“I had no intention of starting a witch hunt or hurting anyone. I just wanted to share a picture I found interesting,” she said. “I come home exhausted, sore, burnt, dirty and blistered on a good day. And after all that, I can be fired for ‘embarrassing’ someone who directly insults their server on religious grounds.”
Welch also isn’t buying Bell’s embarrassment. “If this person wrote the note, obviously they wanted it seen by someone,” she said. “I’ve been stiffed on tips before, but this is the first time I’ve seen the Big Man used as reasoning.”

The issue here is not so much if she is a pastor, she is not behaving as a Christian. We know from her behavior she has not been called nor has she been taught the word. She failed to realize from Whom her blessing to be able to go out to dinner comes from and that the 18% was provided for, oh self get out of the way and study your word. The Lord provides and He calls. We should be praying for these women who have been dupted in to beliving they have been called to preach. Much prayer is needed.
February 6, 2013 at 9:07 PM |
The NO Class so called pastor was wrong..rude, cheap and angry..Shame on her 4 losing her temper 4 something meaningless..We know what the Bible says about ANGER…They both were Jerks..I have better words but they are Naughty, terrible and not printable here..wish I could talk 2 the so called woman pastor..IM sure she does not give GOD 10%..
February 5, 2013 at 5:05 PM |
women being ( PASTORS ) is very unbiblical !!!!!!! the bible shows us women that prayed, led singing praises unto GOD and prophesied.the jewish priests never allowed women to even study the LAW with MEN. MOSES parents had three kids that where prophets moses ,aaron and miriam. moses and aaron went on to become priests unto the LORD. why didnt miriam become a priest also, she had a ministry gift yes she could see clearly in the spirit realm.yet its not GOD’S order for a woman to have a priestly role like being a SHEPHERD ie a ( PASTOR ) over the souls of men. AND let the CHURCH say aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnn !
February 5, 2013 at 11:14 PM |
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!
February 5, 2013 at 7:53 AM |
why go into an establishment knowing tips are peoples income and not wanting to pay. I’m sure this was not this lady first time going into applebees, so she should have know with a party of 6 or more gratuity was going to be charged. if you cant afford to pay your bill and a tip why are you eating out anyway?
February 5, 2013 at 12:43 AM |
In most restaurants if there are parties of 8 or more then gratuity is automatically added. If the person/persons paying add a additional tip onto what has already been automatically added then great! In this case, the Pastor didn’t “feel” like the gratuity of 18% should have been added so that’s why she made the comment. Was it wrong? Absolutely. They both were. They way they responded to the situation was immature spiritually and naturally.

Saints…we have got to get back to the Bible. DO NOT submit yourself to the leadership of a woman pastor or a man pastor who has HIS WIFE as the so-called “co-pastor” (when in actuality she’s running the church as THE PASTOR through him — Jezebel & Ahab). DO NOT submit yourself to the leadership of a male pastor who think it’s alright for women to preach because he’ll have them up before you if he hasn’t already (don’t submit to his leadership because HE’S WEAK and disobedient to God). Husband (pastor) and wife (co-pastor) teams are “family businesses” and have NO PLACE in the the Body of Christ…”IT’S NOT SCRIPTURAL & IT’S PERVERTED AUTHORITY/LEADERSHIP” which God has not approved/ordained (Isaiah 3:12). Weak pastors (the ones w/ the Ahab complex) usually hide these so-called women preachers under the title of “Evangelist” (Saints BEWARE of that foolishness). You WON’T find a woman evangelist ANYWHERE in the Bible. In the scriptures, Acts 12:8-9, Philip was an Evangelist, he had four daughters who did prophesy (remember, Philip was the Evangelist, not his daughters). Prophesying is not preaching, it’s the “foretelling” of future events which are to come! IF they DON’T teach you right, they WON’T treat you right. We CAN’T operate in blatant disobedience to God’s Word and say we are blessed! Remember what happened in the garden when the woman (Eve) usurped authority over the man (Adam)…besides God called them by the man’s name Adam (Mr. and Mrs. Adam NOT Mr. and Mrs. Eve), but that’s another subject within itself, women NOT wanting to take their husbands last name which means that they are still under their fathers rule (when they are married the Bible says in Gen. 3:16, their husband shall RULE over them, NOT their father). IF we get back to GOD’S PLAN for the leadership role the Body of Christ will be better off for it because all this foolishness in the church won’t be creeping in unawares. God’s true “WATCHMEN” must stand up and step up!!! *1 Corin. 14:33-38 “(v.37-38…IF ANY MAN THINK HIMSELF to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant”). *Women preachers and the men who support them are DECEIVERS because they are operating CONTRARY TO THE WORD OF GOD”! Women should posses a “meek and quiet spirit” NOT be “loud and boisterous” like men! The problem with those type of women is that they’re dominate/domineering and they want to be seen and heard…it’s “FEMINISM which means that they’re FEMINISTS with a FEMINIST AGENDA” which is of Satan…GOD’S ORDER of creation has NEVER CHANGED AND NEVER WILL!!! Romans 15:4, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for OUR LEARNING…”
February 5, 2013 at 4:20 PM |
Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. I call these type of leaderships “pillow power”. God never “called” a co-pastor nor is it a five-fold ministry. Many churches today are like dysfunct toilets “OUT OF ORDER”. You spoke truth and nothing but the truth. Thank God for you standing. Where is your church?
February 5, 2013 at 5:37 PM |
Elderls, I have a question then, not for argument sake just asking. I am a woman saved for almost 30 years. I’m not a Pastor, Bishop or Evangelist. Nor do I have the desire to hold such offices. However I do speak at Women’s retreats or gatherings etc…minister and flow in the gifts as the Spirit wills. I don’t care for a title. Once I called myself a minister because that’s what I do. And all hell broke loose. People were upset and bent out of shape.(How dare a woman call herself a minister). Jesus even told me to minister to an individual one day. So my question is what label would you give someone like myself?
February 8, 2013 at 12:15 AM |
Amen and amen. You have to be obedient to God and not man. If God tellyou to speak you have to speak.
February 10, 2013 at 9:43 PM |
Tonja, Titus 2:5 only permits women teaching women about loving husbands, raising children keeping home, being chaste that Gods word not be blasphemed…teaching doctrine is not for ladies…women are to be silent in the church ….if your retreat/gathering fit that theme you are in line with the word otherwise no
February 5, 2013 at 6:17 PM |
well said Sir. amen and again amen.
February 6, 2013 at 2:46 PM |
Well said Elderls. I have a woman in my family who titles herself evangelist. This woman was married and divorced within a year. At that time I was a widow and wanted to a study on marrieg and women period. What God showed me through that study was revelation. The feminist of woman today need to sit down some where. Half are not married and won’t be until they repent and the women that are married rule or desire to rule over their husbands. Women have a role and ALL of Proverbs will help a Godly woman to walk in her role. Woman need to read it, study it, pray for it, and walk in it . Now I’m not a perfect woman, wife , or mother but I strive to be daily. But that is why God gave us his word to help us in our walk with him. I do have a question for Tonja. Why do you need a title or label? Jesus called his Apostles by their first names. Why must we have a title because we’re just serving God by witnessing of his grace, love, mercy and the gift of life through Jesus Christ. So if someone should ask you your title at a retreat or conferece simple tell them your name is Tonja and your a believer in Jesus Christ. Be Blessed
February 10, 2013 at 9:33 PM |
Yes, could you also break it down that because of Gods creation order in the home/church as men being heads women CANNOT be in five fold ministry…I just shared this word with my husband and God revealed it to me in Dec. He insisted because he’s older. Than me me that women could be evangelist I was like no here are the scripture proofs…he was floored. He made copies of all my research now determined to pass it out where ever he goes. I told him you are 70 years old and look how long you have been on and supported female pastor/copastor error. This is his bee mission
February 4, 2013 at 12:57 PM |
Tithing isn’t only done by giving 10% to the building and so called Pastors. Because we are the church it’s in us. Tithing is also done by giving your time and money to those in need of it. Smile and holy conversation is a form of tithes. Sometimes you may be the only form of CHRIST that people may see. Tithing was ment to help God’s people, but churches aren’t doing that at all!! I don’t tithe but I do give love offerings to different people and God has blessed me with a peacefull home and joy everyday that I serve him. I always want to give for the spread of Truth but those times are few and inbetween because very few overseers are speaking just that TRUTH.
Now as far as a woman being a minister, pastor, or bishop she has a rude awakening comeing if she thinks GOD has called her to step in a man’s role. God did not call a woman to be a pastor, minister, or bishop. I am a firm believer that these women who don’t know there roles an refuse to repent for their disobedience will bust hell wide open. I am a woman and love my role as a helpmeet. God has truely blessed me with stepping into my role for my husband. My conversation is God first and my loving husband second. Giving both the respect, honor, and love that they so richly deserve.
February 4, 2013 at 11:31 AM |
There is a phrase that says “you are what you eat.” In my opinion Welch shouldn’t been fired. Therefore, I think that was dumb to fire your employee since it was only self defense or just a comic. At least have a talk with the employee. Second Pastor Bell you are what you wrote in the receipt. Therefore you add your own fuel into your own fire! How are you going to blame somebody for your mess you created!? I don’t get that…
February 4, 2013 at 10:19 AM |
Where in the Bible does it say that we must tip for our services? I can barely make it- and still I can’t (once every 6 months) go out without feeling obligated, guilty because I couldn’t afford to tip? God wouldn’t want me to feel guilty about this. I don’t agree with the pastor’s actions resulting in this person getting fired, however; these restarants owners are multi millionairs. They have yachts and Summer houses. They should pay their own employees just like everyone else has to. If I open my own store or business and hire employees I have to pay them. So, why can’t restaurant owner, hotel owners or other businesses that demand the public to tip. Food prices have increased – so we pay more for less when out dining. SORRY! BUT I DISAGREE WITH TIPPING. If I’m WRONG, I pray that My Lord and Saviour open my eyes to see my fault or wrong. Otherwise – I just can’t see what you see. Pray for me to see what you all are seeing.
February 4, 2013 at 12:10 PM |
If you feel that way then don’t eat out at a restaurant in which you have to tip. Tipping is the main source of revenue for the person serving you. They receive $2-$3 per hr. for every hour serving you and all that money is literally taken away by the time they receive their check. So servers depend on your tips to survive. Unless it’s an affluent restaurant or one in which just happens to have clientele that gives good tips then they’re struggling to survive.
Customers think they’re kings and queens when they dine out and we can just treat our servers like crap and pay them even crappier. We need to understand that the people who serve us have bills too and they want to eat just like we do.
I’m not God but yes you’re very wrong on this one.
February 4, 2013 at 4:18 PM |
I definately agree with you when you say that the owners of these resturants should pay their staff decent wages and it is nonsense to make the customer pay for tips, however, that is the “culture” in which we live in and until we change it, we should respect the waitress or waiter providing the service and tip then appropriately.
February 4, 2013 at 8:31 PM |
Tipping is a gratuity in return for services rendered unto us. That is where most servers make their money. Is tipping mandatory? No. But in some instances it is automatically applied to your bill. Depending on the number in your party. Restaurants can pay a server as low as $2. an hour. Unless they are required to pay at least minimum wage. And servers are also required to report their tips to the IRS. (wages, salaries, tips etc..) According to IRS tip laws. You may disagree with tipping, but God loves a cheerful giver.
February 5, 2013 at 8:45 AM |
I agree Tonja, I don’t see anything wrong with providing a tip to someone for service, I mean people have been doing this for years. This “so-called” pastor just wanted an excuse not to pay the tip because she’s cheap and didn’t want to pay it, therefore, she wanted to use God as an excuse, which is ridiculous. I mean, how can 8 people go out to eat together, and you mean they can’t gather up a tip from that many people, Ridiculous!! And I don’t think that Appplebee’s should have fired the waitress either. I agree, if the pastor didn’t want anyone to find out about her silly message on the receipt, she shouldn’t have wrote it.
February 6, 2013 at 3:38 AM |
Stay at home then. Waiting tables is not an easy job. How would you feel if you were in that waitress shoes? This is one of the reasons why non believers think most Christians are nothing but frauds and hypocrites.
February 4, 2013 at 2:46 AM |
I like giving tips to hard workers. Food service is hard work and underpaid work. I did it when I was younger
February 4, 2013 at 1:21 AM |
i litterally cried when i read this. ive been around church people 4 over 40yrs. ind most of those years ive been abused mentally, spiritualy, and physically abuse by them. i now stay away from them so that they dont turn me off from God. it hurts so bad because i also know i cant be friends with world. im just so tired of the non growth, selfishness , condemning attitude and non daily repentance that some church folk display. please keep me in prayer cause i am so tired of being in this race. now i understand what the apostle paul meant on being a prisoner of Christ for the gospel sake. i mean where can i go cause i cant go back to the world. i truly thank God for ex ministries and a few other ministries i correspond with. i pray Jesus return soon and me and my family (its only 3 of us) make it in. May Christ Jesus continue to bless u all and keep us until His return.
ps: maybe i will try to go to other type of churches instead of evangilitical, baptist or holiness. as 1 above commentor suggested
February 4, 2013 at 12:15 PM |
I know what you’re going through. We all go through it if we’re growing in God. It’s like we’re in a straight jacket or a prisoner and can’t get out. For me I’ve decided to go to a Chinese Christian Church because they insulate themselves from the cultural baggage of the traditional black/white/ mixed race churches regardless of denomination. Try getting out of your comfort zone a little bit, it might work for you.
February 6, 2013 at 9:04 PM |
Thank you for your understanding and suggestion. I will try to. May God continue to keep and bless you
February 3, 2013 at 10:01 PM |
This is a shame because the tip was generated due to number of people in her party. I found it very disrespectful that she did that and now getting bad publicity for that bad move. I always tip whether it’s ordering pizza or sitting in a restaurant. Those waitresses and waiters deserve their tips dealing with a rude public. I was in fast food for four years so I witnessed un-Christlike behavior in customers especially working Sunday nights. This makes me want to respect everyone who works in food service. It is the only Christian thing to do.
February 3, 2013 at 8:16 PM |
It is my understanding that the 18% was taken out automatically so the server did get a tip. I do not agree with the Pastor and it was certainly inappropriate for her yo write that note. But the server did not have the right to post that receipt on the web. It is my understanding that the customer’s name was legible and viewers of the website contacted the church with their opinions. When you hand over your credit card you expect a certain level of privacy. The stores that accept credit card also have agreement with the credit card issuer regarding how they are to keep the receipts. They were both wrong. An employee who is willing to do this should not get her job back. The customer was also 100% in the wrong and has apparently regretted her poor actions. I know my heart and know my love for The Lord but I have had a moment or two that I have allowed my flesh to get the best of me. And I have not represented The Lord the way I would have liked and I have had to repent and move on. It is unfortunate that the incident occurred and that the focus had been on “bashing” the customer who identified herself as a “Christian” Thankfully the Lords grace is sufficient .
February 4, 2013 at 4:34 PM |
I agree, we shouldn’t “bash” the Pastor, however, I think everyone is tired of people who claim to be in the Kingdom of God behaving in the flesh and misrepresenting the Body of Christ. If you are having a “bad day”, stay at home! However, even on your worse day if you have Christ shining in you, you would never treat people like this! The fact that she put “Pastor” on the reciept spoke volumes! What ever you reap, you shall sow!
February 5, 2013 at 8:48 AM |
Amen ByGrace, Amen! As a “pastor” she should know better. You’d be surprised to see the behavior of some “so-called” church folks at these restaurants on Sundays, some are just straight up ghetto, and just left church!
February 3, 2013 at 5:31 PM |
money , money ,money !!!!!!!!!! THE blood of that waitress is on this WOLF’S HandS. this so called pastor better pray this lady builds a real relationship with the LORD and makes it into heaven.alois bell isn’t even anointed to preach the gospel of christ.i went on youtube to hear her,i was like are u serious the sermon was straight fleshly.it was typical church hype on display.i go to a church where theres no special set time to receive tithes and offerings.theres a blue box in the back of the church to receive gifts GIVEN to GOD.I DROVE buses for metro in houston for 7yrs ,and guess what the number one topic people talked about daily.you guessed it Church issues and fake false wolves in the pulpit. im sick to my stomach if this pastor was truly blessed by GOD.WE wouldnt be bloggin about this issue right.she would have blessed the waitress with a nice tip. WAKE UP WAKE UP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ( CHURCH ). SHALOM
February 5, 2013 at 3:01 PM |
AMEN! Prophet unplugged. The “church” needs Jesus
February 2, 2013 at 9:56 PM |
discusting diva/jezebel spirit disgracing the body of Christ who told her she was a pastor because she certainly does’nt have the heart of one. We are suppose to look like our Father right ? This stuff ticks me off sinners can’t enter in and this is one of the reasons so called saints blocking their view of the true and living God. HELP US LORD PLEASE!
February 2, 2013 at 9:16 PM |
I’d like to see the pastor leave that comment on her income tax
return…

good one Sophia,
February 4, 2013 at 10:18 AM |
How about that. Ha!
February 2, 2013 at 6:13 PM |
You reap what you sow!
Was it necessary to write that on the receipt?
You should be embarrassed, because of you this woman got fired and all she did was serve you your meals and beverages and needs and your tip to her for her service to you and your party was “I give God 10%…. Why should I give you 18″???? Is that how a man or woman of God is suppose to win souls? SMH!
February 2, 2013 at 5:36 PM |
Does this woman pastor mean that she “tips” the Lord 10%? God is soveraign, He needs no tips! He wants our whole life for our own good…
February 2, 2013 at 12:06 PM |
I think this person needs their job back this pastor is wrong why would you write something like this!! This is why people don’t want to go to church!! Stuff like this makes me mad!!
February 2, 2013 at 7:42 PM |
Totally agree, I have drawn the same conclusion.
February 2, 2013 at 12:05 PM |
One more thing. She is also wrong about tithing. Tithing is NOT a New Testsment teaching. Tithing undr the law was grain and agricultural products. Not money. Notice Jesus did not Tithe because he was a carpenter not a farmer. The tithe was for the priests, widows, and children of the widows to have food. Research it for yourselves
February 2, 2013 at 9:39 PM |
Amen kgore! People are still bound by this law. SMH
February 3, 2013 at 10:51 PM |
kgore and Jetblack,
At least this ‘pastor’ is showing her (his?) true colors by what they wrote, God/Jesus are Great when it comes to making folks tell the Truth, and apparently in this case it was meant for this ‘pastor’ to be ‘exposed’ in this manner. Calling to get this person fired, they WILL answer to the Lord for their actions, and I really wouldn’t like to be in their shoes when it happens.
Also, as a sidebar, the New Testament does talk about tithes, and here are some Scripture verses to back it up: 2 Chronicles 31:5-12, Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, 18:12 and Hebrews 7:5-9, but for all of those who disagree with this, I’ve learned to “let God be God”, follow His instructions, because for those who say it’s not in the Testament I’d much rather err on the side of caution, when the Scriptures say otherwise.
February 5, 2013 at 1:53 PM |
In Mathew Jesus speaks to the pharisees about them tithing spices or herbs but nit doing the weightier spiritual things. Notice he speaks of agricultural products again. The new testament never teaches the believer to tithe. Keep the scriptures in context. Also Paul said we need to GIVE not out of NECESSITY. We are to be cheerful GIVERS. If you are still bound by it and wish to be enslaved by this then by all means be my guest but dont try to bind people like these pulpit pimps with that silliness.
February 4, 2013 at 11:18 AM |
Amen to that!
February 8, 2013 at 8:22 PM |
Hebrews 7 doesn’t speak of the REQUIREMENT to tithe, but it makes a case for tithing in the present tense. I believe if given, they should be given cheerfully.
February 2, 2013 at 12:01 PM |
She, the “pastor” is out of order anyway. Women are not to be pastors. That is not a role or position for a woman in the church. She is not the HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE. Anytime you see a woman trying to usurp authority in the church by claiming God called them to be bishops/pastors and deacons, you will find a jezebel spirit. Look at revelation. I bet her congregstion is full of homosexuals and effiminate men…… She had no business writing that on the receipt
February 4, 2013 at 12:31 PM |
It definitely his full of lesbians and homosexual men. She should be at home being a help mate to her husband instead of trying be a helpmate to god
February 5, 2013 at 4:24 PM |
Amen.
February 2, 2013 at 11:44 AM |
If she really wanted to be a good representative of Christ, she would have been willing to give more than the automatic 18% (especially if the service was good); not to mention her party was 8 or more people, which in most cases is an automatic expense (waiting on 8+ people is a lot of work and a lot of walking!). The 10% tithe is just the “minimum” God asks of us to show the fact that “he” is the “real owner” of all things and that we are just stewards (managers) of it. The truth is, it ALL belongs to him (Psalm 24:1), so if we can give more than 10%, we should. I just don’t know if those of us who can give more are actually willing to do it.
Now, I do have a pet peeve of sorts about this. Don’t automatically tack on the 18% gratuity if my party is “less than 8 people”. I’ve had that happen to me several times when there were 6 or 7 people in my party, which is less than 8, and I don’t care for it. I point it out to the server and they may apologize and voluteer to take it off; but I tell them, “never mind because we were going to give 18% anyway”, and perhaps would have given beyond that. I just don’t appreciate the assumption that my party of 7 or less will not tip 18%. If there are not 8 or more people in my party as the receipt says, then don’t tack on the gratuity automatically; that’s all I ask.
February 2, 2013 at 8:39 AM |
Churh Folk! They Make Me Angry. Writing that note was not nessasary. Just pay the bill and be done. Everyone knows if you have over a certain amount of people in your party, a tip will be added. So what is the point? Spirt of Dumb! Give to Ceaser what is Ceaser’s and to God, what is God’s. She must think that she can take her money with her, when she checks out this world.
February 2, 2013 at 8:37 AM |
The bloggers on other sites are slaying her!!!!!
February 2, 2013 at 8:36 AM |
This pastor was wrong and I pray she come to the truth and repent. There are so many of leaders who say they are of God being exposed. But are they really making Christians look bad? I thought about that yesterday and the Holy Spirit told me not to fear. This type of behavior have a two fold problem. It can cause sinners to not want to come to the Lord. Or it will bring fear in the heart of those who want to spread the gospel; fearing greater opposition because of their behavior. What the Holy Spirit said is do not fear and be confident in who we are in Jesus Christ. I cannot let this type of behavior hinder what the Lord called me as His disciple to do. I am His disciple and still have a job to do.
Several years ago I was so frustrated with Christians I told God “I am not inviting anyone to church”. The Lord Jesus then told me “don’t invite them to church, invite them to Me”. So that is my goal now. I am the true tabernacle not made by hands (Hebrews chapters 8 and 9). As disciples we have to get beyond the church building and spread the gospel. This pastor is a fallen brethen and needs prayer that will get her saved. It is not the Lord’d desire for none of us to perish; but come to repentence.
Galatians 6:1-5; Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.
February 3, 2013 at 11:59 AM |
Wow This is so true! Thank you Lord for your holy word:-)
February 5, 2013 at 10:05 AM |
Beautiful comment Free from Burdens, I completely agree and I wish that more people had this mindset, but unfortunately too many people try to do “the right thing” but have the wrong motives and are doing it with an unclean heart. We have to get our hearts right first and check our motives when we call ourselves serving the Lord.
February 2, 2013 at 8:26 AM |
Really, I mean, if she or her party were not pleased at the kind of service they were getting, it would be a different story. This is clearly someone who does not understand her role as a pastor or servant of the most High God. She could have simply ask to speak to a manager if she was not in agreement with establishments policies on tipping. Jesus said with love and kindness I drew you, she should have displayed love so she could have drawn
the waitress instead of driving her to do what she did. As a Pastor, I am appould at the way she handled herself in the name of being Gods servant.

Pastor Bell, I give 30% to God’s work and I tip 20%. Have you ever preched that you “get what you give”? Shame, shame on you & I feel sorry for those you minister to.
February 2, 2013 at 7:45 AM |
Why is she even a pastor anyway. She’s a woman so she should be at home being a helpmeet to her husband instead of running around thinking she’s a mini Joyce Meyer.
February 2, 2013 at 7:44 AM |
i am a firm believer in tips. If someone does a service for you that you can do for yourself you give a tip as a thank you be it 10% or 20% they deserve it. This so called pastor is not making God look like the loving and giving God I know.
February 2, 2013 at 7:09 AM |
It is a sad that a Pastor is complaining about giving a tip ! If we died with Christ and rose with him, isn’t the money His anyway ! We are stewards , not owners in the Kingdom of God . We all know waiters do not make alot of money, and that tipping would help them out. The very nature of God is giving, whether we get it back or not. So complaining about giving a few bucks to someone really shows where the Pastors heart is . And then getting the lady fired , wow ! Where is the mercy and compassion ? Even when the Pastor found out about the posting of the incident, she should have had mercy on the waitress. MONEY IS A TOOL FOR US ! it should never get to the point where it runs our life !!!
February 2, 2013 at 6:19 AM |
I too agree with all the comments on here, it’s so sad at this short time these so called “christians” are turning people away from God instead of being a witness for Jesus! Like @Gloria stated, we Are witnesses for Jesus Every where we go, and our actions could truly effect one’s life walk with God or against him. I’m quite sure that entire lunch date was probably loud, rude, nasty complaints and just ungodly.. Yes, she should be embarrassed! And, she should apologize to the waitress, but that comes from maturity and knowing whom you are IN Christ, and not a Diva (@Tonja ) looking for attention to feed one’s flesh. I’ve been in church and worked in an office/job with those types of “christians”, and it’s heartbreaking, because the unsaved co-workers knew they went to church every sunday and were choir members and one was over her usher board! Lord Jesus on judgement day, what a day it will be~
February 2, 2013 at 1:59 AM |
This is crazzy
February 1, 2013 at 11:49 PM |
Pastor or Diva? She should be embarrassed, I would. This shows how fleshly she is. As we mature we should be growing in grace walking in the Spirit. Allowing the fruit of the Spirit to manifest in our lives. It takes prayer, reading the Word and spending time with the Lord. We become like who we are around. When I was a waitress, Sundays were the worst days. Church folks would come to eat, they were rude, would complain, ridicule the owners and have the nerve to make statements like “They goin to make me put my Holy Ghost on the shelf.” Of course I doubt they had any Holy Ghost.
February 1, 2013 at 10:54 PM |
This pastor obviously needs to reread the scripture which says “Give and it will be given unto you good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, men given unto your bosoom.
February 1, 2013 at 10:40 PM |
Pastors like Ms. Bell are the reason of me no longer going to Evangelical churches. I grew up a protestant Christian in another country. When I came to the U.S. one of the first things I noticed In practically every Evangelical pastor was their constant emphasis they make on tithing . Tithing is a biblical doctrine. It is one of the things a Christian with a just heart must give to God. However, it is something between the believer an God.
I got tired of going from church to church, and hearing at some point in the message the word money being brought out. Practically every evangelical Pastor I met either drove nice cars, had nice houses and had VERY comfortable lives, and it seemed to come from the fact that it was all because they were “Men of God”. So I decided to leave such pernicious Doctrine of Prosperity behind, and joined a Bible study group at a Coptic Orthodox church. The one big difference? money is never even mentioned in any of the messages, either at their Bible studies, or during the service. They never pass a bag collecting money at any time during the service!!
Instead, they keep drop boxes under the dark side of the stairways, so that nobody, except God, sees you tithing.
It is clear by MS. Bell’s spontaneous action, that the light of Christ has been replaced by such Prosperity Doctrine. Hers is neither an isolated case, not is it the exception. The only difference in Ms. Bell’s action is, simply, that it was made public.
The Lord’s work in the U.S. could be advanced a thousand fold in this great nation by evangelical churches, but they will keep being held back, as long as its Pastors and leaders turn back their faces from the light of Mamnon, back onto the light of Christ.
February 2, 2013 at 6:56 AM |
Amen brother ! Prosperity gospel is straight from the pit of hell !
February 1, 2013 at 9:47 PM |
I guess she had PMS (Pre-Meditate Sinner)These folks does not represent Christ, their arrogance show up whenever they face the world, because God did not call them to preach, they just show up out of somewhere only God knows, full of thorn. a thorntree will produce thorn.
February 1, 2013 at 9:09 PM |
There are so many things wrong with this. First of all the Pastor was very arrogant and showed no light of Christ. The other 7 people who with her cosigned on the foolishness as well, which tells me that they will follow their Pastor no matter how foul she was. She said her reputation was ruined. JESUS made himself of no reputation, but these so called leaders always thinking about themselves and their ministry. It angers me to hear Pastors say my church, my ministry. Be quiet, it’s Jesus’s church, and anytime we hear Pastors boasting about them and their ministries, you can believe Satan is their Lord.
February 2, 2013 at 8:08 AM |
AMEN. I left a church last year because the Lord told me. He also said money and themselves are their god. The pastor at that church allowed several false prophets to speak One in particular came and one of his lies he told was he said we were better than Jesus. You’d think that would be obvious, but not so because the people are blind.
February 4, 2013 at 1:03 PM |
free i was at a church in 2009 the bishop is also a prophet. he told us he doesnt mind us drinking alchol, having sex but use wisdom, and he dont mind us gambling.the bishop said this while live streaming on the internet,i looked at my friend and excused myself out the door.i heard so many amens coming from the people i was shocked.the word is true theres a famine in the land for real truth being preached over pulpits. shalom
February 1, 2013 at 6:18 PM |
I concur with all the comments made. This “pastor” brought this backlash on herself. Now suppose the waitress is completely turned off by Christians because of this incident. I hope “Ms. Pastor” understands she’s going to be held accountable for this loss soul. Pride comes before the fall!
February 1, 2013 at 5:31 PM |
This stinks in the nose of God! UGH that behavior is unacceptable. Some people who call themselves Christian get so caught up in what they feel are good deeds that they think they have the right to treat others disrespectfully. Hopefully this knocks that “pastor” down off of her high horse and back into reality. We as people of God need to remember that we are to be lowly (meek), patient, and walk in love toward everyone. Showing the love of Christ. For some reason church folk tend to focus more on themselves and what they give God, then what God has given them!
February 1, 2013 at 5:07 PM |
A case of pride too. Bragging about tithing. Folks, thos is a lesson of the day. Keep it to yourself.
Now this former waitress will blame it all on God. Smh.
February 1, 2013 at 4:56 PM |
Remember what you do, shows what you believe!
February 1, 2013 at 4:35 PM |
That Pastor needs to stop going out eating and cook at home or just eat fast food.
February 1, 2013 at 4:06 PM |
why is she quibbling over $6 bucks anyway, probably because she is exact with God and so she is exact with this waitress, she embarrassed cause she got caught…she should do the right thing and apologise to waitress and get her, her job back.
February 1, 2013 at 4:02 PM |
Wow, that is so not a good look from this pastor. Her personality and character is why many people refuse to go to church. Her haughtiness and the way she pontificates towards others in her mind that are beneath her speaks to that. Way out of line to put those remarks on the bill. I’m willing to bet that she and her party probably didn’t treat that waitress too well either. Here’s a thought Aliois Bell (because the title Pastor don’t fit her, I’m sorry!) if you are so embarrassed about this situation and what it caused you being a minister and all and proclaiming God’s Word, why don’t you appeal to the Applebee’s restaurant and get Ms. Welch’s job back. I believe that would go a long way.
February 1, 2013 at 3:43 PM |
This story is so sad and embarrassing for this woman and ultimately for the body of Christ. If you see the way the news reported this story they made it seem as though this is something to be expected of christians. All the servers, the media and all the people who saw this picture thought was how cheap this woman was and how she used God to justify her actions.
If we as christians would remind ourselves that we are embassadors for Christ. That everyone we come in contact with will ultimately judge our God based on our actions. If we would just take a second and think before we react. We would not find ourselves in a compromising position and would not bring shame upon ourselves.
I used to be a server and I sypathize with the woman who got fired. Anyone who has work a job like this know how hard it is to deal with people, how much work there is in keeping the customer happy and how a good tip can make your whole day.
February 1, 2013 at 3:03 PM |
I once rented a house from a “pastor” along the lines of Bell. When maintaince needed to be done, it was like puilling teeth. A couple of times, I had to pay for it and deduct the cost from the rent check. At the end of the lease she had the nerve to refuse to return my security deposit – no reason given. These type of alleged pastors prey on people, but in the end God truly knows who has provided witnes here on earth. These alleged pastors will be serving only Satan in the end.
February 1, 2013 at 3:00 PM |
This is absolutely ridiculous! How did this pastor show humility as a christian? This is small stuff but you see how big these things can become. NEVER use God as an excuse for your own foolishness! You misrepresent the Kingdom of God and make yourself look foolish.
February 1, 2013 at 2:55 PM |
This so called Christian woman is so cheap and rude. First of all, she was only charged (automatic gratuity for a party of 8) about $0.79 for herself. How can she be so cheap and not leave her a decent tip and a note that reads, “Jesus loves you” instead of her prideful remark? One never knows what people are going through, and it’s our job to be Christ like and show others so that they will soon follow the right path. And she had the nerve to say that she’s embarrassed?! She should be! She felt no shame leaving that note for the waitress. This “pastor” needs to apologize to the waitress and repent. She will be held accountable for her actions. Lord help these dumb people that ruin it for all of us that are not like that. Amen.
February 2, 2013 at 11:50 AM |
Actually, if you look closely or do the math, the tip was $6.29, which is not all that much!
February 1, 2013 at 2:26 PM |
When will ppl get back to the Bible and be obedient to God Words? “Her reputation” is the least of her issues if she’s not lined up with the Word of God. Ppl don’t need to be operating in offices for which they DON’T qualify. Bishop/Elder/Pastor is the SAME office. Sis. Alois Bell DOES NOT QUALIFY/MEET THE CRITERIA. All these so-called “Women Preachers” running around here is “Unscriptural”, order in the church has reversed, men sitting under women (God help us). No wonder a vast majority of the men in the church today are effiminate and a vast majority of the women are masculine. Women want to rule over men and GOD SAYS THEY CAN’T (IT PERVERTS GOD’S ORDER)…what’s so hard about that? Ephesians 4:11…these gifts to the church are MEN!!!
February 2, 2013 at 12:14 PM |
I agree. Everyone that is christian is caled to preach. Preavh means to proclaim. We are all to proclaim the gospel to the world but you are absolutely right aboutwomen not being authorized to be pastors, bishops, and elders…..and deacons too They all have to be the husand of one wife. No woman can be a husband nor have a wife. This is a matriarchal take over of God’s patriarchal church. Women are usurping authority over men. That is out of order
February 1, 2013 at 2:16 PM |
If anything, she could have left an even larger tip and wrote “Thank you for serving us, God bless.” Well, just let you know about a persons. character. We’re witnesses everywhere we go, not just in church. Whelp, lesson learned, hopefully.
February 1, 2013 at 3:18 PM |
Thats so true gloria. We are witnesses everywhere we go. And If I was that pastor I would go sit down somewhere, and read and see what the bible has to say about being rude to people.(especially those who don’t know Christ) When you know better you do better..SMH
February 1, 2013 at 2:13 PM |
This is an embrassment to the body of Christ!!! When if that waitress needed salvation?? Is this a great impression to leave? Why couldn’t the Pastor at LEAST leave a tip for her own meal? When will WE (the body of Christ) stop caring about ourselves and start caring about representing the Lord correctly in ANY situation? Why would the Pastor allow her to get fired? Is this walking in LOVE? Allowing someone to get fired because of YOUR pride and embarassment that YOU started? The world will do what the world does because they are living in sin, but we as the body of Christ are called to show them different!
February 1, 2013 at 2:10 PM |
Its their rules, you don’t like it, eat at home or somewhere else. Thats why you give them 18%. She probably also casted out those demonic calories before she ate too. Gods word being misapplied again, spirit of dumb!
February 1, 2013 at 2:09 PM |
This is really sad. I feel bad for the waitress. She was just doing her job and it was Applebee’s policy to add the 18%. The “pastor” should have spoken with management regarding the percentage. This “pastor” left no tip at all for 8 people and a pitiful note. SAD!!!
February 1, 2013 at 2:04 PM |
Judgment will begin in the house of God first. Aman!
February 1, 2013 at 2:03 PM |
A Woman cannot hold the Office of Apostle, Bishop or Pastor. So she is more out of order than just leaving this worldly note. I pray that this situation humbles her to the point of getting under authority, giving up her title and rededicating her life to Christ.
Daniel 4:37
(NASB)
37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”
Let all of our reactions be as the King’s when God humbles us, we praise (Him with our lips), honor (Him with our actions), exalt (HIm b/c He is worthy).
February 1, 2013 at 1:57 PM |
Let us we pray! Dear God,Please keep My family,Friends and Loved ones safe, please watch over them always, and let good health, happiness ,and good fortune befall them.Amen! From your brother in Christ! pastor yousaf

If you got the nerve to put that on paper, well guess what, you should be put to shame
February 1, 2013 at 1:34 PM |
Uncombarable in the first place. That 10% belongs to God anyway. The tip is for the personal service provided to her. Actually she should have given more to the waitress as her personal testimony of being good to each other. Waitresses’ salary are very minimal and only rely on patrons’ benevolence for additional income. Christians interact with the world so people can see Jesus in them……not being nasty and smart.
February 1, 2013 at 2:18 PM |
Exactly! Sometimes, I hate going to dinner with church folks!
February 11, 2013 at 10:01 AM |
I agree. Church folks are some of the most rude and nasty people you would never want to meet. Always complaining about something, never bringing enough money to cover your tab but you want to eat everything on the menu. How can you be so rude when in most cases you just came from church? What did you learn? What does the bible say about doing unto others? Stop treating these waiters/waitresses as though they’re just a pair of hands there to serve you. They’re people with faces, feelings and bills to pay just like you.
I will say that this pastor needs to make things right. She was wrong for writing the note and the waitress was wrong for posting it but she should not have lost her job over it. Don’t be embarrassed now because your name is out there in a negative light. You started it. Now be a big girl, repent for your actions, change your ways, behave like a true daughter of God and do the right thing.
February 1, 2013 at 1:25 PM |
This is what happens when we let pride lift up it’s dirty head! Now, she has learned a lesson and is able to over come what she has done! We all could use some forgiveness and self examination!!!!!! We never know when this could be one of us! The enemy does not play fair but when he comes in like a flood the Spirit of God will lift up a Standard.
This was just another of the enemies dirty tricks, let us put on the whole armour of God and pray for one another that we stand for Holiness and Righteousness!!!!!!!
February 1, 2013 at 11:37 PM |
Michelle I like this comment because I got in the flesh and went off one time. And felt bad afterwards God reminded me that I did not pray that day. (Pray lest you enter into temptation).
February 1, 2013 at 1:05 PM |
This pastor doesn’t even know the waitress or what’s going on in her life. The waitress may have needed her witness and this pastor blew it. I really cannot trust any of these churches right now, let alone find a good one.
February 1, 2013 at 12:54 PM |
This is just dumb. I’ve had friends that have said the same thing this pastor wrote on the receipt. It just exposes how cheap you are and how much of a tight wad you are with your money. And this pastor’s argument is flawed anyway. If she’s highlighting the “tithe” she gives to God, then why is there no mention of her offering according to the obvious theology she follows? Clearly this person is not a cheerful giver.
February 1, 2013 at 11:34 PM |
Right Pastor Price Jr. I have a Christian friend who never leaves a tip but always wants something for free.
February 4, 2013 at 11:23 AM |
lol… Tell me about it
February 1, 2013 at 12:38 PM |
I want to think that she was being sarcastic! Unfortunately the sarcasm took a ditto on her. She has no sense!
February 2, 2013 at 11:57 AM |
True; she only reaped the seed she had sown (Galatians 6:7). Thinking about that principle, this could have turned out differently–much better and more favorably.
February 1, 2013 at 12:32 PM |
“My heart is really broken,” Bell added. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.” Then why not apoligize to the waitress and compensate the gratuity, and ask the manager to reinstate the employee.
February 1, 2013 at 12:32 PM |
Well if this is a deliverance ministry that u oversee how often do u submit to deliverance. Deliverance is needed from being stingy, greedy and religious The comment should have never been made
February 1, 2013 at 12:32 PM |
That so called pastor should be ashamed of her self. Instead of being embarrassed about her actions she should apologize and repent for her wrong doing, especially as soon as it went viral. As CHRISTians we are suppose to follow in Jesus footsteps and treat others the way Jesus would. That’s ashame that the young woman lost her job because of her that pastors wrong doing smh.
February 1, 2013 at 12:26 PM |
This pastor must be ashamed of this type of behavior! How much must this pastor be earning to compare 18% of the bill a big to a tithe? That’s a shame! It is indeed thieves in the temple.
February 1, 2013 at 12:15 PM |
Feel bad for the waitress that got fired. As for the lady “Pastor” that was embarrassed cause it went viral, good for her. Even though she felt that way, it is so rude to leave that as a note. And for her info, she wasn’t being charged 18% gratuity for herself, but for a party of 8. Gratuity is automatically charged when it’s a large crowd, is she dumb or what? She is one of the dumb ones that gives true servants a bad name. Shame on that Pastor.
February 1, 2013 at 12:03 PM |
The Pastor was out of line for leaving those remarks on the tip. If she didn’t want to tip, she could have left nothing and said nothing.
February 1, 2013 at 12:19 PM |
I agree… she should never had made the comments. She commented to the press, “… that the ensuing firestorm had “ruined” her reputation.” She ruined her own reputation and the church she leads.
Her heart should be broken and filled with repentance. She not only misrepresented the “church” but the Lord. Would Jesus have left such a note? Instead of wondering what others think, she should have been asking “What does God think of my actions?”
How does she know whether or not the waitress was a tither? My, my… we must pray people of God.. We must pray!
February 1, 2013 at 12:32 PM |
I agree with your comments.
February 3, 2013 at 8:05 PM |
Question for anyone here…. if women can not be pastors why are so many doing it and have a large congregation? Are they interpreting the Bible wrong or do they feel that rule no longer matters? I’m just curious.
February 4, 2013 at 11:46 AM
Why does it matter how many congregants that they have? I think you are confusing that with them so how having a ‘greater’ gospel than others. It seems though that the fact that there are all these women pastoring is more of an indictment on the men than the women, because there should be men who step up to the plate to be leaders so that we all follow in the order that the Lord has designed.
February 4, 2013 at 12:37 PM
These women are just unhappy in their personal lives and try to over compensate by being seen as holier than thou. Just look at Joyce Meyers she was miserable before and during her walk with God and was disobedient to her husband. It’s easy to have a large congregation when you’re telling people what they want to hear and making their sin trivial. They’re just interpreting the bible how the want to see it and not for what it actually says.
