Thieves in the Temple: A Call back to Holiness! “The Sex Symbols Who Speak in Tongues?”

by

I was at the grocery store the other day when I was unexpectedly confronted with an adult-oriented magazine located right next to the vitamin section. I immediately had to look away from the front cover, which featured a scantily clad, seductively posed, sex symbol. Yet it was only a few weeks ago that I read an article about how this same sex symbol loves to speak in tongues and has to restrain herself from outbursts in tongues while attending church services. What?

This is actually a perfect illustration of American charismatic Christianity, where you can say you love Jesus (like the rapper “The Game” claims to do) and still frequent strip clubs (as “The Game” still does), or where you can flow in the gifts of the Spirit and become a made-for-TV preaching sensation, only to announce that God told you that you married the wrong woman, leading to a quick divorce and remarriage.

Yes, this is the “gospel” of the 21st century, “Spirit-filled” church of America, where the cross is bypassed, denial of the flesh is scorned, purity is called legalism, and anything goes if it feels good.

It is the “gospel” of self, in which Jesus dies to make you into a bigger and better you, a “gospel” in which God is here to serve you and help you fulfill your dreams, and where the measure of all things is not how God feels about it but how you feel about it (or how it makes you feel).

Back in the late 1950s (as I recounted in my 1990 book How Saved Are We?) there was a notorious gangster named Mickey Cohen. He attended a Billy Graham meeting in Beverly Hills, and although he expressed some interest in the message, as revival historian J. Edwin Orr explained, Cohen “made no commitment until some time later when another friend urged him, using Revelation 3:20 as a warrant, to invite Jesus Christ into his life. This he professed to do, but his life subsequently revealed no evidence of repentance, ‘that mighty change of mind, heart and life’ [as defined by Richard Trench]. He rebuked [his] friend, telling him: ‘You did not tell me that I would have to give up my work,’ meaning his rackets; ‘You did not tell me that I would have to give up my friends,’ meaning his gangster associates. He had heard that so-and-so was a Christian football player, so-and-so a Christian cowboy, so-and-so a Christian actress, so-and-so a Christian senator, and he really thought that he could be a Christian gangster.”

Today, in some charismatic circles, you can be a Christian gangster—or, at least, a tongue-talking, seductive starlet, or a Christian lingerie model, or a strip-club-attending, Jesus-speaking rapper, just to mention a few. After all, as we are reminded day and night, “Who are you to judge?”

Actually, what Jesus taught was that we should not judge hypocritically or superficially or unjustly and that we should not condemn. But Jesus also said, “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment” (John 7:24). The Lord commands us to judge, as long as we do it rightly.

Paul taught the very same thing, writing to the Corinthians, “not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?” (1 Cor. 5:11-12)

Why is it that everyone seems to know the words, “Judge not” (Matt. 7:1), but very few seem to know—or care about—the divine call to judge those “inside the church” (meaning those who profess to be followers of Jesus)?

Without a doubt, only the Lord knows who is saved and who is not. But the Word makes things very simple for us, outlining God’s part and our part: “But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.’” (2 Tim. 2:19) There you have it! To quote the words of John, “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God” (1 John 3:9). Could God make himself any more clear?

Unfortunately, as Orr noted years ago, “Many have sadly forgotten that the only evidence of the new birth is the new life,” and the Scriptures make perfectly clear that if we profess to follow Jesus with our lips but do not follow Him with our lives, we do not belong to Him. (I’m not talking about momentary lapses in our walks with the Lord or about serious mistakes that we make, only to reject and renounce them. God’s mercy and forgiveness are great. I’m talking about the consistent, willful pattern of our lives. Are we following Jesus or not?)

It’s time to say goodbye to this watered-down, sin-excusing, so-called gospel that offers everything and calls for nothing. It’s time to get back to the cross and back to the truth. Otherwise, as America collapses in a heap of amoral ruin, the soft preachers of America will be largely to blame.

Someone said is anyone reading their bible? Apperantly not because speaking in different tounges in the bible means you speak spanish and I speak english those are different toungs that paul talks about in the bible. God also talks about the demons that speak vein repititious babel which came from babeloyn. There is no holy language. Get it together so called christians and will true believers please stand up!!

  2. truth Says:

someone asked is anybody reading the bible?
well some of these churches try to have you so busy with 10 services in a week ,that the only scripture you get if what the pastor preaches on and they usually manipulate that

  3. Sharon Says:

I am not suprised. We live in a world where our church leaders such as pastors, and preachers are living sloppy lives and chasing money and fame in the name of Jesus. Of course people are going to be confussed how in the world can you think what your doing is wrong when you see Pastor so and so on TBN teaching one thing and living another. Not all of the church leaders but many of the ones in the lime light show bad examples of what holiness is suppose to be. I can not stand to watch gospel awards shows. I cringe when I see these big named gospel artisit come on the stage an act a fool. I make me sick to my stomach.

  4. J.R. Massey Says:

WE ARE IN THE LAODICEAN AGE OF THE CHURCH!!! I’m praying that I don’t get caught up in this foolishness!!! This is the very reason why Muslims stay Muslims….the Koran teaches that ALL CHRISTIANS are like this……It makes it hard for us to get the evangel of Messiah worldwide……not enough money, not enough HOLINESS……..

  5. Willie Blair Says:

    Great article…. Amen.

  6. Brandi Davis Says:

Speaking in tongues when your foul????? I can’t even get away with a wrong thought without the Holy Spirit checking me!!! So I know the tongues you are speaking in are not Holy when you are defiling your body and teaching others to do the same!!!

  7. Tina Says:

Megan Fox attends a church in LA called Oasis. It is a cult and the pastors there preach false doctrine. After this interview with Megan was published, the preachers encouraged the congregation to run around the church and be free in the spirit. They even had the choir run across the stage! They need prayer and to completely turn back to God. The pastors are more concerned with their new building fund than they are with preaching the word.

  8. Ummer F Says:

Anti-christians. Though they call themselves christians.

An atheist recently told me “a christian is anyone who says he’s a christian”, “so hitler is a christian because I say who is a christian!!! I’m right, you’re wrong, I’m big, you’re small, I’m smart, you’re dumb”

How strange that atheists and these anti-christians all work together.

Aye there’s a spirit in their tongues… the spirit of the anti-christ beast.

Of one where people are told “you’re saved” like they’re told when they’ve bought a stock “you’re safe in profit!” … and only later do they realize they’re in deep mud.

  9. Pastor Fred Price Jr. Says:

    I love Michael Brown!

  10. Fred c. Rochester Says:

Jesus said, “Not everyone that says ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom.” Wonderful works done is no guarantee of entrance into the kingdom. Tongues is a wonderful work, but seducing men is of the devil. No doubt a lot of men, so called sanctified tongue talking men, looked for more images of her to masturbate off of, just like they did when Beyonce summond males to her altar of perversion on Super Bowl Sunday. Pick your jaw up off the floor, brother. Your sin found you out.

  11. James Says:

I asked people in church the other day to refrain from communion if they know despite the message they just heard and the coming before the table, they would leave and continue in sexual (adultery, fornication). One mother of a young woman approached me after the service and said what do I base that on? She actually defended her daughter who is having sex with a boyfriend and said she should partake regardless of the premeditated decision to fornicate.

  12. HB Says:

Take home message, it’s time for those who call themselves saved stop toying around with their salvation thru willingly engaging in sin and foolishness that they KNOW is against God’s Word. Meanwhile, we who worship God in spirit and in truth have to be that light in this world and be an example of God’s power to anyone that needs it and will be softened in their hearts to receive it.

  13. Pastor Courtney Smith Says:

A-MEN Brother….. You can’t pastor those who hold this doctrine !!!
They have made the Gospel of Christ a catch phrase and not a NEW BIRTH !!! We were all born in sin ( in the flesh ) Thats why we have to be Born Again !!! The only way to know we are saved is the fruit of GOD in our lives…. Anything else is as vomit in the mouth of God !!!

  14. Real Woman of God Says:

Ummm, speaking in A tongue but NOT in a Heavenly Spiritual language! Too many in the Church that have a form of godliness. Wolves in sheep clothing…in the church! Not surprised at all! Thank you Ex Ministries for telling the truth and exposing the fake, hypocritical, judgemetal, saints on Sunday’s, Aints Monday-Saturday folk! Many are coming in His name saying “Lord Lord”! This year watch and see how many truly love Jesus Christ.

  15. Elderls Says:

Jesus My Lord…a classic example of “seducing spirits and doctrines of devils”. THESE PPL are possessed by satan…plain and simple. You can not be in fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, they must be reproved (Ephes. 5:11) and be a Christian. The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the tongues that this woman is speaking in. As for the made-for-TV preaching sensation, he’s living in open ADULTERY (1 Cor. 6:9-10). So that ppl won’t be DECEIVED by these “fakers, shakers and charlatans” they must make sure that what’s being done “LINES UP WITH THE WORD OF GOD”! THE WORD OF GOD is the plumbline against this foolishness & nonsense!!! This nation is in trouBLE…

  16. Miguel Says:

    is anybody reading the bible?

  17. Corey Pritchett Says:

Let the Church say yes and Amen beloved!!! Enough said…

  18. Desiree' Says:

Amen. Every one that says Lord Lord…..nope, not disciples of the true and Living God but of the god of this world, satan. We are in a time when many want to claim God as Father, but denies His authority over their lives, decisions, etc….This is plain idolatry.. We indeed need to surrender everyday to Jesus, and allow Him to have His way. When we don’t and try to hang on to our own agenda, habits, etc. we are fodder for the enemy to delude us and others… This reminds me somewhat of being asked to go minister to a sick woman. As I attempted to pray for her, she stopped me and attempted to minister to me. She was quoting all of these scriptures (she was well versed in the Word), and even tried to sing a “christian” song to me…But, the Holy Spirit started revealing that although the words were correct, that the spirit was from underneath and not above. It was not her speaking…It was clearly the devil. Later, when I got home, I was lead to a scripture that confirmed that indeed it was the enemy. Deception is the name of the game most especially now. We need the Holy Spirit more than ever. Many may be operating by a spirit and even manifest power, yet it is not from God. The deception will come with all signs and lying wonders….

  19. jameccia Says:

I keep teaching my children that “you will know them by their fruit ” . This is her fruit, (what ever her name is) . She’s likes attention. Like every other entertainer. Sad part is that she’s use God as a way of attracting the wrong kind of attention. She knows she is wrong but she probably in so deep that she doesn’t care. I hope someone shares with her the real truth message of Jesus Christ. You’ve got people typing in tongue, singing in tongue, just making a mockery of that gift. I just don’t understand it. …

  20. servant of God Says:

Wow Minister Graig, i don’t know where to begin, demon posess people also speak in tongue. The tongue they speak is evil, a demonic language they are blaspheming God, i’ve seeing it on TV and local church. PSALM:12v 8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.PSALM: 9V 16-17 The LORD is known by the judgement which he executh: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah The wicked shall turned into hell, in all the NATIONS that forget GOD.

  21. Asher Says:

AMEN!! 1 Peter 1:16 “Be holy for I am holy”

  22. Pastor Chris Says:

As a prison minister to women, I “enjoy” seeing the fruit of a corrupt society and compromising ministries with their only goal in sight is money and vainglory. There is no discrimination except for the few who escape serving time by resources available to families with prominent influence. If we do not operate in the FRUIT of the SPIRIT and allow the Holyghost to operate as the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, we will continually see the results of true “CHURCHanity” instead of true “CHRISTianity”. We must do our part as true believers at whatever cost to minister and love people while eliminating the art of preaching a Christ-less gospel without a “COST” involved.

    • Mike Says:

I don not enjoy seeing the fruit of a corrupt society. Proverbs says were to wear grace and mercy upon our necks. Not rejoice in a persons down fall.

  23. Adrienne Kinard Says:

    Well said!

  24. James Says:

The american church is closer to that of perganum than a true christian church. The tribulation is coming soon on the church for their sins. No pretrib rapture to get them out of it because they are why it must happen. Our only hope is repentance.
